You may not think Judy Barr Topinka, the Republican candidate for Illinois governor, is pro-gun, but she is worlds ahead of the current incumbent, Chicago-connected Blago. And the NRA gives Topinka an "A" rating. Don't sit out this election; if you live in Illinois and value your 2A rights, you need to vote for Topinka.

She's killing me.

She acts like she doesn't even want the job, which makes a twisted kind of sense if you're an old school politician from Illinois. Why take the fall for Ryan and Blagojevich? Run the campaign, take one for the team, and The Party bigwigs will make sure you're taken care of for all time. Bob Kjellander and Bill Cellini can make her rich or poor with a word, I'm sure.

Lose the election, let Blago deal with his mess, and it becomes much more difficult for Lisa Madigan to slide into the Governor's office in four years.

She and Blago have been having a "who's more corrupt?" contest for weeks. Her whole campaign comes down to calling Blagojevich a crook. Blagojevich's best buddy then got indicted for extortion and wire fraud because of the fundraising he did for--at least everyone in the state believes for--Blagojevich. So what happens?

His poll numbers drop--and Topinka's numbers drop more than his! How do you manage that?

Regardless I am voting for Topinka. I figure we might as well get a new face in government instead of Blago. I am tired of him. It doesnt matter to me anymore except to see him gone.

I figure we might as well get a new face in government instead of Blago.

JBT is not a new face in government. She has been around in the back rooms for a long time. She is one of those that feels there is no deal too slimey to do. The one thing she has going for her is I suspect she has managed to stay clean all these years. I don't think she has engaged in any criminal activities.

I am voting for her, but I really wish there was an alternative. I think she will lose by 5 or 10 points. It seems possible that Bill Brady was persuaded by the party leadership not to drop out of the primary race so JBT could win instead of an outsider that owed nothing to the big bosses. Bill Brady claimed to be a big supporter of gun rights but when it came down to the wire and he could have made a difference by bowing out and asking his supporters to vote for Oberwies, he handed JBT the nod by staying in the race.

I also think that things will come to a head if Blago has another term. He has just made too many expensive promises. Even some in his own party are not going to support the massive tax increases necessary to pay for these things.

It seems even possible a sitting governor could go to jail. Would not bother me a whole lot. He and G. Ryan can share a cell with Daley at Club Fed. They all helped run the state to near ruin. They ought to all pay dearly for it.

Blago has made so many expensive promises to every possible special interest group out there (gun owners excepted of course) that it would take him ten consecutive terms and a 110% tax rate to pay off all the promises he's made.

His "Pre-School for every child" program and his "Health care for all children" and his soon to be announced (I'm not kidding) "Universal Health Care for every Illinois Citizen" smack of an increasing devotion to socialism.

How is he going to pay for all this?

To start with he has already ordered 15% across the board cuts in all current social support programs, including cutting programs for veterans and people with disabilities. That is so he can say these programs ar "funded" ont he stump.

Guess where the rest of it will come from?

Selling off the Illinois Lottery? - No

Selling off the Illinois Toll Road System? - No

Raiding the Teachers Pension Fund again to balance the budget? - No

It's going to come from us with a state income tax hike to help him keep his promises.

He's promised not to raise taxes this election, but then again he also promised to respect the rights of Illinois gun owners last election too, didn't he?

I know Topinka is part of the "Combine" but I'd rather have some gridlock downstate and someone that at least got a decent rating from the NRA.

Economically blago has to go and I will be voting for topinka just based on how important I think it is. I've never heard any really strong pro 2n'd amendment statements from her. Her webpage listing her position on the issues is remarkably devoid of content. Generally I disagree with her social policy positions. Its sure not a choice I like but I think the only viable one.
