I've seen this advertised most usually on shot guns, but occasionally on hand guns. What does the phrase really mean. Other than the two are the same. Are there some special markings associated with the term?

Thanks,
Just trying to improve my gun Knowledge.

Generally it's identical physicals AND consecutive serial numbers.

Never know for sure since anyone could use the term, but that's what I think of when I think of a matched pair.

Rossi offers single shot long arms that come with both a shotgun barrel and a rifle barrel in various gauges/calibers. They call them matched pairs. You may have heard someone refer to one of those.
