Im not talking about military surplus like Makarovs or CZ-52's or the like, but run of the mill recently made stuff that may or may not still be available.Id have to say that mine was paying $299.00 for a nice Glock 21 with two new 10 rounders.Im normally wary about used handguns and semis in particular, but i thought the 21 was worth a taking a chance on and im glad i got it.How about you?

Found a Colt "Classic Gold Cup" NIB at a gun show for $950...only 300 built in Colt's custom shop. Has the mirror blued slide, polished stainless frame, barrel shroud and trigger are jeweled. Didn't realize what I had bought till a dealer told me he'd sold one for $2000.......doesn't make up for the ones I paid too much for, but it helps.

Best deal?

I got my Springfield Professional model, with only 50 rounds fired through it, for $1,300.

Considering the $2,395 MSRP, it was a screaming deal.

Greeting's All-

My "best deal" on a previously owned handgun
came in October of 1998, when I walked into
my local dealers showroom and picked up a
LNIB 2" pinned barrel Smith & Wesson "Chief's
Special" model 60; of 1979-80 vintage. Fit and
finish were beyond approach, and it was truly
mechanically excellent. Price? $249.95 +8%
sales tax.

But

I got an even better deal that day on a Browning
"Practical model" 9m/m. When contacted by PX, I
was quoted $509.95 + sales tax; when I arrived
I received the Browning NIB for $399.88!:uhoh:
I simply was estatic; as I could'nt beleive it.:)

You might say, that day was my LUCKY day!

Best Wishes,
Ala Dan, N.R.A. Life Member

I think my USP40 with a nickel slide and night sites was my best overall deal for $490. I was starting to get sticker shock on the new prices.

But my S&W Model 37 ($150)and Hawes SA .22LR ($85) were both good deals to me and fun to boot.

Like new Silver/Chrome Browing Hi-Power with two factory Hi-Caps for $450 on gunbroker last year. The unfired 9mm American Derringer for $200 is a close second.

I also payed $450 for an unfired American made stainless Beretta 92FS with two factory ten rounders, but it was an inaccurate POS (and I sold it for $580) unlike my father's Italian made 92FS which is very accurate and a little nicer looking.

Probably my High Power.

2 13-round magazines, virtually new in box (my neighbor bought it and shot it once), and with a single tiny rust speck high up on the rear grip.

$300.

My best deal was a never fired S&W 629 Classic with a Red Dot and a hard case for $400.
I wasn't in the market for a .44 mag but it was too good a deal to pass up.

The guy had it for over a year and never fired it.
I had it over an hour and never fired it.

S&W K-22 with a nice, crisp, 3lb trigger, flawless bluing. It needed cleaned BADLY, but for $150, I still considered it a good deal ;)

or

BHP mkIII 9mm, early 90s manufacture, 2 standard-capacity magazines. Didn't look like it had been fired once. Not quite as good as Mike Irwin's deal at $350, but it was still too good to pass up.

Beretta 92 Brigadeer stainless w/ two 10 rounders...possibly 99.99% condition...$399 at local gunstore...not a SCREAMING deal, but they had a new one right next to it for close to $550. So that made me happy...and a couple hundred flawless rounds later...still happy.

My first handgun.
A ruger blackhawk .41 mag, used.
Came in a doskocil case, with a propoint pdp3, B-square mount, aftermarket rubber grips, all for $288.xx + tax. ($300 even-out the door.)
Previous owner traded it in because he houldn't hit with it.
I took the scope mount apart, loctited it, and it is still my most accurate magnum.

I found a Freedom Arms Premier Grade 454 in a gun shop that was being sold as "used" for $855. The gun was new, it had been purchased by someone who'd filled out all the paperwork and was waiting for the checks to happen (Kalif). He'd been driving home and was killed in an auto accident. The fellow at the gun shop said it was a nightmare getting all the paperwork straightened out and that the gun was technically "used" and they had to sell it as "used". He told me I better drive carefully. Funny thing was about 2 months later I ran across an ad in the paper for someone selling a Ft. Knox safe (I bought it too), she was the wife of the fellow who'd bought the FA pistol.

An unfired Colt 1911A1 (1991A1) 45 acp, with gold engraving that is STILL available and selling for $1800.00. I got it at a pawn-shop for $600, even then I laid it away. The clerks didn't know what it was so they priced it as a like new Colt 45acp. Hit the web site America Remembers.com for a picture of the "American Eagle Tribute " pistol.

Back in the late 70's a co-worker of mine told me he had a new gun he wanted to sell. He told me he only fired it twice because it made to much noise and was way to heavy. Since it was a birthday gift he had received he wanted to sell it and buy something else. He wanted $200 for it so I bought it. The gun was a brand new 4" Colt Python with 48 cartridges. His story turned out to be true as his uncle also worked there on another shift and was mad at him for selling the gift he had just given him.

Probably the $150 I paid for my beloved Dan Wesson 22 revolver. It's probably given me as much enjoyment as any three other guns that cost probably 10 times more.

$289 for an unfired Taurus PT99AF with 3 15 rounders and 2 10 rounders. 18,000 trouble free rounds.

Also got half off a very nice EAA Silver Team that had been used in competition for a season. Has three holds drilled for optics mount.

$400 for a 38 Super Combat Commander, 2 Wilson mags and two boxes of ammo.

But my buddy takes the cake... he has a thing for $60 guns... $60 for a S&W Model 60 heavy barrel. $60 Henry rifle. $60 870 Express... It's good to work in a pawn shop. ;)

Colt Gold Cup National Match. Guy I met at the range was cussin at it, because it was always malfunctioning. Said he wanted to get rid of it, was just not reliable. I looked it over and offered him $200 -- he took it and chuckled about what a deal for him and what a sucker I was.

I took it home, and did a "reliability" job on it --
Replaced 2 piece guide rod with standard short one, along with recoil spring cap.
Replaced "extended" slide stop with standard one.
Replaced "extended" mag release with standard one.
Replaced 20# recoil spring with standard 16#
Threw away the "shock buffer".
Cleaned an amazing amount of crud out of the gun, and lubed it sparingly.

It has worked perfectly ever since.:D

Hi Guys,

I haven't bought too many used guns, but at a show in the fall of 2000, I got a barely used Colt Ltwt. Officers MKIV-series 80 for $450. Nearly perfect finish and barely any wear of the finish on the frame rails. Not the greatest deal, but they were not being made any more and I had been looking for one for a while, and this one was barely used.

A lady friend in need of money, offered me her new and still un-fired Taurus PT111 with stainless slide, in 9mm, for $50 cash!

I gave her $75 instead, and told her she could have it back anytime in the next ninety days, for exactly what I paid her. :)

It was missing the magazine, Taurus box, and the retainer spring on the take down lever. Her brother took it apart and lost the spring, before they ever got to fire it!

Taurus replaced the spring for free, and she found the box, sales slip, warrantee papers, and magazine a few weeks later, and brought them to me. :D

She never asked for the gun back, and moved out of state a few months ago.

Terrible trigger pull, but it makes a good belly gun for the price. :D

Ruger Redhawk back in the early 80s. Couldn't find one in 7.5" stainless. Reason was Ruger's blue line was running at the time. No stainless guns for several months. Couldn't let my PTP expire, so I started calling around for used ones. Found one for $350. Went to check it out and it was pristine. Shop owner told me the guy traded it in for a .357.:D Figures. Best deal money-wise: Picked up an unfired Colt 1911A1 pre-70 series for $450; sold it a few years later at a gunshow for $850.

Best deal "shooting value": bought a Brolin Arms 1911a1 at a local gunshow for $350. Gun was in great condition and had a Kart barrel. Brolins had a mixed rep and I didn't know much about them but I decided to give it a go. Turns out to be one of my best shooting .45's I've got(well, in the top 3 anyway). Someone must have spent some $$ getting this gun to shoot well and had enough. Their loss was my gain.

A model 586 S&W, little bit of holster wear, but otherwise in great shape, gave $200 for it and a Bianchi holster.

About three months after that, I picked up a LNIB Walther PPK/S for about $300. Some little old lady had brought in the shop after her hubby died. My guess is the gun sat on the night stand for a good long while, with very little use. I don't know how old it would have been, but it was an Interarms gun, with the serial # of 008xx.....

About 5 years ago, shortly after I started into shooting sports I came across what I considered (at the time) to be a fair deal. What I happened into was a mint condition, with all the paperwork in the factory box, early import H&K P9S with 4 factory mags. For the paltry sum of $550.

Best part was I had no idea what I had purchased/found until several months later when I showed it to a friend that has been collecting guns from the time he could walk. I only knew (at the time) it was an H&K and they were supposed to be a pretty good firearm!

That P9S is today worth easily twice what I paid and is the best shooting 9mm I own!

Ok, this is going to skew the prices a bit but the best deal I ever got on a used handgun was FREE.

Had an acquaintance who had a Star PD in very good condition. Never shot it, didn't want to shoot it, wife wanted it out of the house. I told him to go to the gunshop and put it on consignment. He didn't want to go to the trouble so he gave it to me. I offered him some cash (OK, I'm cheesey so I told him I'd give him $100 for it) but he didn't want it.

I guess free qualifies. A friend of mine gave me an old, beat up model 10 police revolver and told me if I could clean it up, I could have it.

I cleaned it up and gave it to my Dad. It must be pretty old because it does not have a date stamped on it. It looks pretty slick now and shoots just fine.

- - - Worth keeping alive, just for grins.:D

Several pretty good deals over the years.

Lang ere - - Late 1960s, probably. Rem Rand 1911, 60% exterior, flawless function, with GI holster and pistol belt, for $15. Even back then, it would have been a good deal for $90.

1999 - - Tricked-out model 19, P&R - - Target trigger & hammer, wh outline rear, red ramp front sights, two speedloaders, Don Hume holster and loader case, 60 rounds ammo. $150.

The deals are there - - You just gotta have patience and keep some cash on hand. (I'm chronically short of both commodities.):p

Ruger Mark II Stainless Government Competition for $60.00.

The gun was about 6 months old and owned by my neighbor. I was with him when he bought it, I put probably half of the rounds through it from day one. He decided he wanted a Beretta Neos and said he would sell it to me for a steal which he did. The only thing wrong with it was that he rarely cleaned his guns so that first cleaning was a bit tough.

The gun has never malfunctioned and is way more accurate than I am. So basically I got a LNIB with all papers, scope rings, mags etc. Mark II that I knew the history of from purchase for $60.00. Not bad. Not a NIB P7M13 for $400 bucks :scrutiny: .....JERK.....:scrutiny: :D but not bad.

My best gun deal was when an elderly lady moved in next door after the man that lived there died. She bought the house fully furnished from the man's family who just wanted rid of it. She moved in and had squirrels in the attic (literally, not figuratively).

She came over to my house and asked if I'd help. I went over there and crawled up in the attic and patched the holes the squirrels were coming & going through (they were outside). Upon leaving the attic I noticed a canvas bag that was thickly covered in dust and called down to the lady and told her and she asked what was in it - I looked and there were 8-10 old handguns... many were just old worn out junk, but one was a well used Colt Single Action Army 1st Generation in 32-20.

I brought them down from the attic and told her that I'd like to buy them... she said that she should offer them to her grandson first, but that she would sell me one for $25.... which one do you think I bought? A 1st Generation Colt SAA in good working order for $25.00 - bet no one can beat that deal???

I love this stuff!!!

I think my best deal was an internet buy where I got an honest to god NIB Model 28-2 with box and all paperwork from 1976 for only $300. In my part of the country I had been paying $289 for others "well used"

It was satisfying to get such a pristine example of one of my favorite revolvers...but it was nice to get it in a "national" venue in open competition.

My best handgun find was a couple of years ago -- late sixties 4" Highway Patrolman that was absolutely filthy. It check out tight, the bore looked fine and the trigger was OK so I figured it was a good deal at $200. When I finally got it cleaned up (four cleanings with soaking in No.9 between cleanings), it was almost unfired -- didn't even have the line around the cylinder. As far as I can tell, someone fired a box of dirty .38 reloads, then hosed it down with oil and let it set in a dusty place for thirty years.

I haven't had some of the super screaming deals others have, but I haven't done too bad.... I'm not sure which was the best deal.

"Loaded" Springfield Champion I bought at a local dealer with a "pit" of a range(You UT members will know what I am talking about). Sold as used, but I swear only one box of shells was put through it before the owner traded it for a Glock $400.00

An "ugly"(in relative terms) stainless Python that locks up tight and is in time $400.00

CZ75B Pristine $269.00

Colt Woodsman Match for $75 that I picked up at an estate sale in a brown paper bag and all in pieces. At the time I purchased the guy running the sale told me that it was missing parts and had been in the bag for about 10 years. I spent $23 for a couple pins and a spring. The best $98 I've ever spent! :neener:

Best deal on used: Taurus 92AF with 3 fifteen round mags, and two boxes of ammo. 200 bucks, cash. And no yellow forms to fill out. Had less than 200 rounds thru it. Now has over 2000 rnds thru it and still looks and shoots like new.

1917 Colt New Service Army model, $275. Mine is a re-blue but you can't touch a 1917 for that kind of coin.

FEG Pa-63 $100. Never has jammed, good shooter.

Colt Magnum Carry $425 took me a LONG time to find one. Maybe it wasn't a steal, but I've seen them selling for $600.

Have a couple other Colts that I "inherited".

Best used deals. Hmmm.

Gotta well-used 4" Taurus M-82 .38 Special for $99. Great trigger, super accurate, ugly finish. The new kitten peed on it right after I got it. Out-shoots my brand new $500 Mountain Gun. My sleeper gun.

My as-new Shansei Arsenal Broomhandle Mauser was $1241. One of these in the condition mine's in listed for $5000 in the Standard Catalog of Firearms a few years back. Dunno if it'd still bring that, but I've never seen one for sale for less than $2000, and mine's nicer than all the others I've seen.

A Harrington & Richardson-built "Secret Service Special" .38 S&W top-break revolver (A wanna-be Smith & Wesson. It tries harder, and says ".38 SMITH & WESSON ctg." on top of the barrel, and has a fancy-script "SSS" at the top of the grips.) in 90% condition, for $85. Tight, shiny bluing, nicely accurate. My birthday gun one year. :)

An AMT Automag V in .50 A.E. for all of $500. Never seen another for less than $700, and these are rare. The lightest of the big 50's.

A gray-patina'd 1921-vintage Police Positive Special, with about 50% of it's bluing left, and shiny bore, $125.

An arsenal-refinished 1913-stamped Steyr-Hahn M-1912, with the crest belt-sanded off, (:() $149.

A Meriden Arms Co. hammerless .32 S&W top-break, with a neat little prawl on the grip, and a scroll-pattern front sight, tired nickel finish, and qaa bit loose, but it runs. Free. :D (Came in a box fulla broken-down crappy little guns. It was the only one that worked and wasn't missing parts.)

Johnwill's picture of a gun that's a teensy bit nicer than mine, but not by much:
http://mywebpages.comcast.net/johnwill10/album/images/Colt_1903_32ACP.jpg

My 1923-vintage 1903 Colt has almost all of it's bluing, and has the "HARTFORD CT U S A." part of the slide rollstamp double struck with "HARTFO" from the backside of the "O" onwards to the "U" in "U S A.". (OOPS!) Brilliant iridescent/electric-blue finish on the trigger, mag release, recoil spring plug pin, safety, extractor, extractor pin, and the sights. Crisp, unscrathed grip panels. It's about 90%, and I got it for $275, where these go for about $400 in this condition typically. Definitely a prize.

Best deal on buying a used gun was a Colt Trooper MK III for $60.00. That was in 1971-72 but he paid $120.00 I believe, so 50% of new for a 99% gun was a great deal.

Best deal I've made selling a gun was when I traded my Beretta Elite II .40 for $1200.00 worth of materials and labor on my car.

Best deal I got was a High Standard Sentinel MkII .357 Mag for $50 from my girlfriends mother, her husband had passed away and she wanted to get rid of it. Prior to his passing he gave me his AMT Automag II .22WMR and both of us his Coonan Model B .357 autoloader (mine on condition that we get married one day :) )

A friend of a friend had a death in the family, and needed to sell some of the deceased's guns...so I was able to buy two (2) Randall stainless 1911's for $600, and a Charter Arms Bulldog .44 for $160.

I also once bought a gently-used Beretta 92F with three full-cap magazines for $375.

Last but not least, I found my constant-carry BJT DA38 derringer ANIB for $185 at a gun show - American Derringer Corp. bought the design, and their version of the same gun costs almost $400.

S&W Model 37 (no dash) was in a pawnshop for 250.00. It had a bit (ok, a lot) of holster wear, but seemed to be in good shape. I talked to the shop owner, who said he was getting out of handgun sales and that he wanted to 'move' his last few pieces.

He asked if 180.00 out-the-door would seal the deal. So he worked the price so with tax it was 180.00 even.

How quickly can you say YES without drooling at a good S&W for under 200?!!!

Add a Galco belt and a DeSantis Mini-slide and I'm up to 280.00 for a complete carry rig that is comfortable and classy and concealable, even under a white T-shirt in humid 90 degree weather!

From what I hear, in some locales, you can't touch a used S&W for under 300-350.00. I'll never sell this gun.

An Airweight for 180.00!

My 2nd best deal ever was a Rossi 68, blue steel with comfortable rubber grips.

Talked the shop down to 175.00 and the gun appeared unfired. It was brought in by an elderly woman recently widowed. Mirror-perfect bluing, smooth pull.

I agreed to the offer and asked if a detail cleaning could be included in the price. When I picked it up, the 'smith said he recognized it as his own work-they had sold the gun there and he performed a slick action job on it! The contact surfaces had all been polished and smoothed. The trigger pull is 7.8 lbs double action and consistent on all 5 chambers. The break is so smooth it is a surprise, even dry-firing!

Lockup occurs WAY before hammer fall, never spits lead due to pristine alignment.

A 99%, perfect bluing, action tuned revolver for 175.00-and it fits in all my pre-existing J-frame leather!

Without a doubt, the best deal I ever got was this 1917 Colt USGI Army 1911. All original and shoots better than any Springfield or Modern Colt 1911 I ever had. It's tight and has a really nice crisp trigger.

The best part? I got it for $400.00.

I didn't see this thread the first time around, but I might as well post anyway.

Colt Lawman Mk 3 .357 4" with Pachmyr grips for $150 in '95. My first handgun. It was kinda grungy, but after I got it home and took some Hoppes and a toothbrush to it, it looked better than new. I love this revolver.

Recently, I got a Colt Mark IV Series 80 in .40 for ~$500. It's two-tone with a blued slide and ss frame. Never been fired. It's my 10mm project gun now. :)

I was pretty happy picking up a S&W 6906 for $299 about 12 years ago, but my best was a "broken" Browning 1910 .32 ACP for $15.00 A new sear spring and mag for $32 was all that was needed. (until I broke the firing pin by dry firing it 30 seconds after installing the sear spring. :banghead: ) Idiot!!
