Finally settled on a G19

I put up a post a couple of weeks ago asking for oppinions on a Sig Pro in 9mm as a cary gun. Most of the responses led me to believe that, tho it was regarded as a good weapon, it was a bit chunky for cc duty. I looked at one a week ago and I have to agree. I went back to searching. After considering many auto loaders, and a few revolvers, I narrowed the field to 2 polymer guns: the 4" Springfield XD in 9mm, and the Glock G19. In the end, I gave the nod to the G19. The Springfield is 30 bucks cheaper in my neck of the woods. But the Glock is a bit smaller, while only sacrificing one round of capacity with standard mags, and that was the deciding factor for me in the end. Price was $520.00 . So how did I do?

Also, can someone recommend a good IWB holster for the G19?

slim, lightweight, accurate, no fumbling with various levers. IMHO, it's the BEST of all of them...

The Glock 19 is the best Glock in my opinion. It has a very efficient size to capacity ratio.

I recently clocked some Winchester Ranger-T 127g +p+ ammo out of mine at 1250 fps on average... not shabby at all for a 9mm, and better than some 357 magnums.

I had two Glock 19's, then I had an epiphany, why not have a G19 sized gun in a more powerful caliber? Hence my new G23 in .40S&W, the recoil isn't much more and don't need special +P ammo to get the necessary effectiveness. That doesn't mean I don't like the 9mm, to the contrary, I do. As a matter of fact I am impatiently awaiting the local gun store to receive it's first shipment of the new but alusive Kel-Tec PF-9 pistols which will be my primary carry piece.

A couple holsters to consider are the Galco Summer Comfort or the Galco Royal Guard.

I like them both. There has to be a holsters thread on this site somewhere. I'm sure someone will direct you to it if a search doesn't turn it up.

Excellent choice of pistol IMO.

IMO, Glocks are best in the 9mm flavor. OF the 9 mil's that are available, I think they just plain shine w/ the 19. So, I think you done really good w/ your choice! :D

Thanks for the responses. The GLOCK didnt feel "awkward", as I had expected after reading everything I had about it. Sizewise, I actually find it fits in my hand perfectly. I'll be sure to practice often to get use to the trigger, but 9mm range ammo is cheap enough; thats another thing Im excited about. The one downside of my Sig 220 was cost of ammo, it really did keep me from going to the range on a few occasions.

But if I had to own only one handgun, it would be the G19. I's the perfect balance between size and caliber and has to be the most popular handgun in America if not the world.

Good choice!

For IWB try the Don Hume Model 715M. I use one for my G26 and it works well for me.

I'd like to second the Comp-tac C-TAC for concealed carry. It's about as thin as an IWB will ever be, it won't rock or shift once put in it's place and it retains the pistol very well (both retention strength and cant are adjustable). It's also tuckable and very easy to put on/ take off as needed.

I think you made a very good choice with the G19. I've always loved my G17, and would very much like to get a G19 sometime. It's an excellent compromise between capacity, caliber and size, as has been stated.

In my area the prices are as follow:

G19 = $479 + tax
G19C= $517 + tax.

All in all, you did well.

Carried a G23 as a LEO. Solid choice, High.

Now buy a bunch of ammo, magazines and another gun just like it.:)

Just picked up my sweet!!! After I rented one last week, I knew I had to have one to go with my G17.

The G19 is my favorite. Sounds like you did pretty good. They usually range from $490-$510 in my area.

My absolute favorite IWB is the Don Hume H715M clip-on. Exceptional quality, excellent price. Quickest way to get one is usually If they have it, you'll have before the week's out. If not, might take 2 weeks. Hume direct seems to make you wait 30 days just out of principle.

As far as Kydex goes, Sidearmor is my favorite. Nice holsters.

I'm a SIG man...

The more Glocks I shoot, the more I want one. For whatever reason, I can't seem to say that about XD's. I've shot the G21, G21C, G17, G19, G20, G27 and G22... lots of folks think they're best in 9mm. I like them all. I have the feeling that soon I'm going to cave and buy one myself. Just wanted to congratulate you on your choice of a fine weapon.

I have the feeling that soon I'm going to cave and buy one myself.

By all means, get one. They tough, reliable, easy to maintain and carry. I like Sigs too, but I'd carry one of my Glocks before I carry one of my Sigs. No reflection on Sig quality, just that day to day scratches and holster wear on my Sig's finish would begin to bother me before it would on my Glocks.
