should i put loctite on my barrel nut to install the barrel?

that one problem with loctite is that over a period of time it gets really, really, really solid. Then, if you need to remove a screw that has been reinforced with loctite it can be extremely, EXTREMELY, difficult to loosen that component. Sometimes even heat is necessary. So, this gunsmith does not use loctite routinely, only when absolutely necessary.

There are several grades of locktite that you can use, it may be that the gunsmith doesn't like to pay the devil to take screws out so use one of the more civil grades of locktite like the blue.

Are you talking about an AR barrel? If so, no, the threads require a moly based grease and then the barrel nut be torqued to 32-80 lbs. Other rifles, I have no clue.
