Yeppers. I haven't visited the gun shop all week and when I walked in this afternoon I was informed that they were holding a revolver that I may be interested in. It was a S&W Model 19-3. It looks like its never been fired. I couldn't find a single speck of residue. Of course the bluing was just magnificent.
So Its now on layaway and will soon have a prized position in the safe.

For me it all depends on condition. This one is for all pratical purposes is brand new.

Most importantly, your Model 19 will not have a lock on it. This means it will be worth more in years to come, and also has not been made unnecessarily complicated with an unnecessary lock.

No residue just means it has been cleaned. The turn line and recoil shield will tell the real truth for you.

Congrats on one of the most beautiful guns S&W ever produced. I have a 4" -4.

Congratulations DG! I too have just found a like-new 19-2 at a local pawn shop. Bluing is perfect, no holster wear or turn lines. Original diamond service grips...$330 otd. I'd post pics if I could get the file size issue straightened out.
I only wish it had a 6" rather than 4" barrel.

I've just learned aout a problem that exists with the forcing cone on Model 19's. Seems they like to crack and S&W are no longer making barrels for this weapon. I've seen suggestions to shoot 38 special instead of .357 to avoid the problem of the forcing cone cracking but why buy a .357 and not shoot.357 ammo through it. Must rethink the purchase.

Don't rethink the purchase. You'll never fire enough to damage the forcing cone. I've been shooting magnum loads from a couple of 19's for over 30 years without a problem. One's a 2 1/2 inch, the other a 4",both P&R.
Get it!

You'd have to work hard to shoot that thing out. Can you do it? Yes. But if so, you have a lot of disposable income. If you're really worried about it, cruise the gun parts places and pick up a forcing cone/barrel assy when one becomes available, coat it in oil and toss it in a ziplock bag. If the cone ever breaks, you have your replacement.
I shoot .38s through my .357s all of the time. Why? Cheaper and easier on both me and the gun. If you want to shoot .357s you always have the option.

The forcing cone erosion on the K-frame S&W's, 13, 19, 65, & 66, occurs when you use the ultra-lite/ultra-fast .357 Magnums. Stick with regular weight, 148-158gr, .357 Magnums to avoid the 'problem', which likely would never bother most such owners. My 6" 66 has never seen a commercial round, save some +P 158gr LSCWHP PD rounds. It runs mainly on .38's and .38+ level loads in .357M brass. I have other calibers for more 'emphasis'. It is super -a great feeling/pointing revolver. A 19, or 66, in good shape is a keeper. Of course, they are all getting more difficult to find!
The replacement for the 65/66, actually, the 4" 619/620, is a true L-frame with a 7-shot cylinder - and a newly designed 2-piece barrel with a short lug, a la the K-frames. A bit more heavy than the K-frames they replaced, they also have the Hogue monogrips that S&W supplies on the L & N frames - I liked the UM's Combats on the later K-frames - or Ahrends wood grips. The K&L frames take the same grip.

+1 Stainz advice is good. Stick with 158 grain ammo, and you will probably never have a problem.
This 19-4 has gone through uncounted thousands of 158 grain rounds and is still going strong.
