I picked up a second PPK in .380 the other day and I finally had some free time to clean it. For some reason I cant get the damn thing field stripped. I pull the triggerguard, pull the slide all the way back and lift up but the thing wont go anywhere. I've taken apart my makarovs and my interarms PPK hundreds of times. What in the hell am I doing wrong?

Sometimes they are a bit tight. Be sure the slide is all of the way back before you try to lift it up. On occasion I have pulled the slide all of the way back and lightly tapped on the bottom/back of the slide with a plastic mallet.

I've found two of them in 2 different shops that do that. I ended up getting one that worked properly. Although it doesn't help your solution, it does teach us to test how it disassembles, doesn't it?

You'll probably want to send it back for repair. Even if you can get it apart once or twice, it'll probably take machining to get it to the point where it will take apart as easily as you thought it would when you spend the $500 on it.

Keep it, though, once it works -- I love mine!

Fuff, how in the hell do you tap on it with a mallet and hold the slide back at the same time. Its a bear to pull the slide all the way back as it is.

Did you remove the magazine first???

If yes, then try pulling the slide back and rocking it side to side while lifting up.
Keep working it if this doesn't release the slide the first time.
There is probably a small burr on the frame that is keeping the slide from releasing.HTH

More of S&W fine Quality control. I belive I would call and ship back on their nickel . Let them fix and return. .
To many reports like this and other trouble .I keep buying old Interarms. Yet to have one that doesn't work. I just replace recoil spring (stock lbs)and hammer spring (16lbs). and go to shooting. I replace springs as a perventive maint. thing. I then know when they were changed.

I had a stainless S&W PPK/S and I had precisely the same problem. Not only did taking it apart seem to entail three or four hands, but putting it back together was damn near impossible. I handed it off to one of my range instructors and he couldn't even get it apart.

I wish I had some advice, but everytime I disassembled and reassembled the thing, it was just sheer dumb luck. I sold it and bought a P99.
