I picked this up for about $225 at the local shop. I wanted a true hammerless revolver but I liked this one so I bought it. I can't find any GP-100's like it so I'm wondering if this is just a custom shaved hammer or what? Also on the side it is stamped C.A.I Georgia VT. Any help would be appreciated. THanks

I believe that your revolver is part of a group that was offered a year or two ago. I have heard they were Royal Canadian Mounted Police revolvers but don't know for sure. C.A.I. has imported and sold other runs. Earlier than yours they had a bunch of 3 inch GPs. My dealer got several and let me "cherrypick". One was pretty rough but the one I picked looked a bit scuffed up but was in perfect mechanical condition and tight as a vault. Polished out a bit, it may be my favorite revolver. I really, really like the fixed sight GPs, especially the 4 inch 1/2 lug versions. It's a pity they have been dropped from the line. I'm glad I have a good sampling. Enjoy that GP.

The gun is a 4" bbl Double-Action Only GP100. The hammer is a standard Ruger DAO hammer. As Gary said, these were made up by Ruger for some sort of law enforcement special order, almost certainly foreign--I've also heard the RCMP named.

C.A.I stands for Century International Arms, the name of the company that bought up the used guns and imported the used guns back into the states.

Pretty slick revolvers with a surprisingly good trigger. I got mine for about what you paid.

Excellent, thanks for the info guys. I have been trying to find out what CAI meant for at least four months now (no search engine would bring it up). Thanks again.

225 was rather fair, and I'm sure you will enjoy it and I would think the gun could be converted back to standard hammer and DA/SA if desired, I'd leave it as is.

Are there any shrouded hammer medium frame revolvers?

That Ruger is nice I wouldn't mind having one since I only shoot DA and it would be a nice fit in my courier bag I carry when riding my motorcycle or bicycle. I got a nice blued security six for about the same price recently that hadn't been used at all if any and have shot alot with it but it isn't the most acurate and the sights are adjusted to there limits for windage and elevation to get it to shoot POA, I would just think I suck at shooting revolvers but my 642 shoots just fine.
