Are grip safetys a standard feature on 1911 pistols? It seems that they all have them. Also, can anyone recommend a 1911 in 9mm? Thanks.

Kimber builds a few different models of 1911s in 9mm. I personally am not too keen on the idea of either a 9mm or a .40 S&W 1911 Ė not that I have anything against either cartridge. Itís just that both cartridges are relatively short for 1911 frames. That leaves wasted space in 1911 magazines. But donít get all fired up and mad at me folks. Itís just my opinion. Personally I love my Kimber 1911 .38 Super and Iíll probably be getting another 1911 soon (undecided on the brand) in 10mm.
I guess if a person didnít reload and liked 1911s, a 9mm 1911 might be the way to go. 9mm factory ammo is easier to find and cheaper too than .38 Super factory ammo. Besides, my 1911 .38 Super wonít do anything my wifeís little Sig 239 9mm wonít do unless I shoot that hot 115 grain CorBon stuff in my .38 Super. My chronograph made me aware of that fact. I know, I know, some people shoot 9X23 Winchester ammo in their .38 Supers. Iím not going to. For more power, I prefer larger calibers. But thatís just me. Some people like Chevys. I like Fords.

The grip safety has allways been on 1911s, and was part of the original design.

Most of the big 1911 companies make a 9mm version, Springfield Armory, Kimber, Para Ordinace.

Springfield just released the EMP which was specifically designed for 9mm and has been getting good reports. It will cost you close to $1000 though:(

Here's a thread on it:

If it doesn't have a grip safety its not a 1911 is it?
