I know people start these threads a lot, but I've always wondered what type of gun the agents carry on The Matrix.

Thanks, guys. That's kinda what I was leaning toward, I just wasn't very sure. Watching the movie, it's hard to get a good look at it, that and it doesn't look like your standard hollywood desert eagle (ie. it's not nickel-plated, diamond-encrusted, gold trimmed, etc.).

Hollywood has been in love with the DE for about 10 years and it shows up in most movies and TV shows. They film makers love unique or "badass" looking guns and when turns up they glom onto it.
This is mostly ridiculous as most real people wouldn't carry whatever gun is the current Hollywood darling. The silliest use of the DE in Hollwood was having Carroll O'Connor as Chief Gillespie carry one (in a floppy cross-draw holster no less) on In the Heat of the Night.

Still nothing beats the sillouette of Eastwood in Dirty Harry (Sudden Impact?) with the .44 magnum automag.

Its the Magnum Research Inc, Desert Eagle Mark VII pistol.
Only if it is .50AE. Otherwise, it is a Mark XIX.

I could be wrong, but weren't the ones used in the first Matrix film chambered in .44 Magnum? Or maybe .357 Mag? Probably need to watch it again frame by from at the end, to tell for sure, but I recall very clearly seeing the crimp on the blanks, so it seems quite unlikely they were in .50 AE.

The armourer for the film:

Wankers" there reply are wankers in this film want Desert eagles My reply
your film.
Seems to be the 50AE.
(Hey that ryhmes)
Edit:
Oh yah and the Matrix series was notorious for throwing around empty shells that did not belong to the guns firing.

Mk XIX. The Mk VII has a 3/8" dovetail. The Mk VII .50 is the Mk XIX platform.

desert eagle sure enough and I have never been able to figure out why anyone would want a desert eagle, but hey if that is what floats their boat more power to them right? :)

Fun movie trivia;
In The Matrix, agents used Desert Eagles with the standard black oxide finish. In The Matrix Reloaded the "upgraded" Agents used polished blue DEs.

I have never been able to figure out why anyone would want a desert eaglePersonally, I think it would be nifty to have a .357 semi; ammo commonality on the range=a big plus. That, and it works with .44, too. You can keep your .50AE.

I have never been able to figure out why people who live in the city or burbs and never leave the pavement would want an SUV or pick-up truck. :neener: :)
I guess it is a personal preference thing.

If my hands were large enough to handle them correctly, I am a person who would own several in 357, 44, etc....
But sadly, the grip frames needed to wrap around those longish calibers are beyond my physical size limitations.

I rented a Desert Eagle .50ae at a range once. It was big, heavy, and kicked like a mule. It is a well made gun, and I can see how the long barrel and scoped model might be good for hunting. However, it isn't very practical for anything other than showong off at the range.
If you really want one and have the $$$, go for it. There are still a lot of guns on my wish list before I get to a Desert Eagle, and I wouldn't recomend it as a first gun.

Translated by a Desert Eagle owner:
I've never fired one and don't want to cough up $1,400 for a handgun and spend $1 per shot to enjoy it..

I think the attraction to the Deagle is the massive size of it, kinda like the S&W 500.
I haven't had a chance to play with the deagle, but I did get to play with a baby deagle in .40 and it felt very well balanced.

I would love to have a 460 Magnum or a one of the new Dan Wesson 445 SuperMags, but I rented a Desert Eagle once and decided that Hollywood could keep all of em for all I care. :D :D :D

yep!:) that's a little rich for my blood, but have fun and enjoy it. and just think while you are recovering from the recoil, i could land two to the chest and one to the head with my xd, that cost no where near that and ammo definetly ain't that expensive. but man if that is what you want then you are more than welcome to it. happy shooting!:)

But what if that 1 round hit, before you could fire a shot?
Really now, if you used your DE in .357 or .44, wouldn't it be more econmical?

This is obviously a Mark IV German made water pistol manufactured in the late 1960s, just before the hippies took over San Francisco.

I have a Mk-XIX in 50ae that is reliable, accurate and allot of fun to shoot, I have taken several deer with it but it's really more of a range toy than anything else, that’s ok though as I have had all of my main firearm needs covered years ago and can now own a few just for fun.

yep, just a range toy. I manage to get some Speer Gold Dots at gun shows nearby for $16 for 20 rounds. Cheapest I've found so far. Everything else is usually about $25 for 20 rounds. It doesn't get shot much, and all the brass goes to a friend that reloads.

I have owned 3 of the early guns. Two .357s and a .44 Mag. And for comparison I also have experience with the .44 Automag. They are huge, the DE is the worst. Holding an Automag feels right. Big, but right. Holding the Desert Eagle feels "less right". Huge, and awkward. The grip doesn't have to be that big.
In .357 mag, the guns are awesome. 9+1 rounds, and nearly no recoil, because of the weight. Fierce blast though. The .44 is a bit worse. I haven't shot the .50. Maybe someday....

Yes, that's why they made the Tokarev, which is pretty well equivalent. Except it's slender and not a giant clunky clumsy bulky gun.

While not the most famous of desert birds, the ring-necked thirsty deserted buzzard is famous for its muzzle weight and wing velocity, which allows it to shoot back at predators while foaming runways for emergency landings with delicate droppings. Able to load magazines into the rack for reading in the port-a-potty, the deserted buzzard can leap short distances in several bounds, while looking like a real buzzard on steroids. The female of the species gathers brass for reloading while feathering the nest with black powder to make the male look good. This is a really good gun, like the Colt SAA, so buy one.

I wouldn't buy one, those guys (and that pretty lil Aussie lady, Carrie Moss I think her name is) didn't hit anything, bullets everywhere, no body shot! :D
Just joking! I think it was the Matrix 3 film at the start when they fellout of the window and fell towards earth shooting madly at each other and bullets were going everywhere ecept into people or agents. I said to my wife (and I forget, I have a booming voice:uhoh: ) ' They need to cut out the bull**** and learn to shoot!' Half the theatre laugehed their tits off and the pther half were pissed. One of the Matrix fan club who had been to every showing of the movie in the first week were there and they complained to the manager, I nearly got thrown out.
