Dad's Spartan Remington having trouble

We shot said gun for the first time this weekend.
1) It was HARD to get the gun to break open after the shells had been discharged.
2) Once we got it open, the shells wouldn't eject, we had to manuelly pull them out and throw them aside.
3) Even empty, the shotgun doesn't stay broken open all the way, it has a tendency to close back halfway shut.
Comments, thoughts?

The SxS models just have extractors on them -- not ejectors. Not sure which model you're talking about there.
Sounds a lot like my Baikal (what is now Spartan) SxS that I got a couple years back. It loosened up over time.

I have an EAA/Biakal (which became the Spartan once Remington started importing it instead of EAA, I believe) 28ga O/U.
It was sometimes hard to open up after firing a dozen or so shells and started to warm up. Something warmed up and expanded just enough to interfere. Got better over time. Just go shoot it a bunch and break it in!

What kind of ammo are you using? I have a different brand O/U that ejects flawlessly with my reloads, but if I use the really cheap 1 1/8oz loads once in awhile it's kinda hard to open. I think with your gun you'll just have to use it a lot to get it to loosen up a little.

check the manual if you have the 310 - there are some set screws to turn to put it on ejector mode. Otherwise you have to pull the shells out. And if it's brand new, did you clean it? the shipping grease makes it pretty tight to open. Shoot the snot out of it and keep working the action - it loosens up, needs to "wear in". I love my spartan o/u. Not a cheap gun, just an inexpensive one.

Remington 2 3/4 00 buckshot
Remington 2 3/4 9 pellet
I'll try to break it down for him and clean it tomorrow.

I'll tell dad to check his manuel. Thanks

My Baikal is a SxS and has ejectors in it. Sometimes they work and sometimes they don't. It's getting better as I shot it so it just needs more breaking in. When I first got it they didn't work at all.

Th Russian guns I've handled have all been stiffish when new. Give it a little more time and see if things slick up....

Spring for a couple of boxes of three inch shells and shoot them through the Spartan (Baikal). Russian shotgun ammunition is much more potent than ours. Using the 3 inchers should loosen it up some.

Mine broke in after about 1 or 2 boxes. Then, it was as-good-as any other shotgun I had handled. This at 1/2 the price.
