What Handgun Do You Keep Coming Back To?

I keep coming back to my Model 60 J Frame. I wear my 4" K-Frame's, and other medium frame revolvers, and they're too bulky feeling, the square butt's on the K-Frames don't help any. My Springfield 40 caliber service model is nice when carrying OWB ,as are most of my guns, but IWB most feel too large for a comfortable carrying condition. My BHP's are thinner but still have a larger feel. I carried my new Makarov today and it was much better but I still didn't feel quite as home as I do with my Model 60 J Frame. It seems to be the gun I come back to most of the time.

Maybe I need to lower the square footage on my tool shed I have put years into building? :p

Glocks, I sold my 30 and 22 to buy a big $ 1911. A few months later I bought back my 30 and have been looking for a deal on a 22.

Trusty S&W Chief's Special (J frame snubby, .38 special). Goes with me everywhere except on special occasions (when dressing up requires something a little slimmer, or circumstances beg for something bigger).

Sent another rattler to the maker with it just yesterday. Wouldn't be without it.

I played with a few of the newer designs, thinking that as I younger guy I should be shooting the "technologically superior" new super guns. Then I started shooting more guns that belong to friends and found I really like SA autos. The Hi-Power fits my hand nicely, but the 1911 is the gun that won me over. I'll keep my BHP, but I'll be taking delivery of mt second 1911 when I return from overseas. On the revolver end there's nothing like the blance and feel of the old K-frames. I an old school young guy I guess

was my daddy's WWII 1911. I was 8 years old (1965).

Shot and qualified with them in the military (1977-1982).

First pistol I ever bought with my own money...was a 1911 (1983). Not an A1. Total POS. Wouldn't feed anything except ball ammo (and that, only sometimes). That experience drove me to The Dark Side....for a long time.

My next 1911 experience was shooting a buddy's Kimber (2001). Since then I have bought/sold at least nine 1911s. Yes, I am a serial owner. Sell one, buy one. Buy one, sell one. I can own all of them...one at a time :)

Currently--Kimber Ultra Carry II. Next...who knows?

My Ruger SP101 .357 2 1/4" barrel. I'm very accurate with it on the first shot of each cylinder-full and shooting a box of .357 rounds in one range session is no problem for re: recoil, follow-up, groups. Am I a sharpshooter? No, not by any stretch. It just feels very natural in my grip and I'm relaxed and comfortable when I hold and shoot it.

My polished SS M640 w/Pachmyr grips. And I don't come back to it, I just find it in my waistband whenever I leave the house. Damn thing must jump in there on its own.

It's not the most accurate, and certainly not the most fun to shoot handgun that I own. It just seems to fit my +50 personality and attitude. It's always ready for some exercise, conceals better than anything else, and coughs whenever I want it to.

I've only found one other item as dependable, durable, and just damn good-looking, and I married her!

CZs. It started with an 85 Compact and has exploded into a collection of 4 modern CZ spanning sub-compact to full size 45. When the new compact 45 comes out I'll get one of those too. If I'm not careful I might even splurge for a Champion or Tactical Sport one day. Nothing else feels or shoots like a CZ for me. I can nail targets with a CZ with a horrible trigger far more consistantly than a finely tuned 1911. Just something about those guns WORKS for me.

S&W Model 19. This 4 inch K frame with 357 mag JHP is one of the first guns I ever bought, back in 1986, and is still the gun I keep loaded at home for family defense. I've enjoyed my semi's, but the absolute reliability of this revolver, with the power to match, makes this the one I truly rely on.

Back in 1991, I discovered the Smith & Wesson DAO .45's. Since then I have tried Sigs, Colts, Glocks, Berettas and few others. Nothing compares to the reliability, quality and elegant simplicity of these Smiths.

I remember at one point all my guns were in diferent calibers. Then I sold off everything that wasn't a 9mm and .45 to standardize my firearms. Well.... once that happened, the only guns I now own chambered in .45 are my 1911s.

I just cant stray away from them, nor do I feel the urge to buy any other .45 in any other platform.

Over the past 8 years, I've gone through 28 different handguns trying to find what was "right" for me. I've owned pistols and revolvers by S&W, Colt, Taurus, Dan Wesson, Walther, H&K, Detonics, CZ, and Glock.

They used to joke about me at the local guns store that I never BOUGHT a pistol there, but I'd RENTED quite a few.

Looking back on it, there's 2 I kept coming back to time and time again. The 1911 and a 4" .357 Magnum revolver. My collection just felt incomplete the few times that I was without them.

Presently, those niches are filled in the collection by a Springfield Armory Mil-Spec that I built up to how I wanted it, and a stock S&W Model 28 4" revolver. I'm also planning on picking up an SA 4" GI Commander version and building it up to match my Mil-Spec. That'll replace the Mil-Spec as my carry gun.

Well, SD guns are nice, & I agree with much of what has been posted... but I have to admit that I'm on my 3rd .22LR Ruger Mk-II over the course of 20 years or so. Each of my previous Mk-II's were sold because I got bored with their terrific accuracy - just too easy to hit the bulls (or whatever). But then, eventually...... I would remember their accuracy with fondness, and once again I would long to just be able to sight&shoot - pow/pow/pow/etc....

A really fun gun.

Started out with a S&W 686 then onto the 44 mags still like em alot. Went to contenders for silhouette and they are very accurate and have their purpose. Love my Cowboy guns ALL Rugers. Old models with short barrels and engraved Birds heads and the newer 5 1/2" new models. I love em all. I have also had a couple 1911s along the way and never developed a real love for them. Somewhere along the way I bought a model 19 Glock and later a model 17 sold them both to finance other things. I now own a G23 which is on my hip at the moment and will be as often as possible. I will be buying a 32 this week in 357 sig. The Glocks aren't pretty but they work and they are small enough for me to carry. If I could own only one it wouldd be the Glock. My second choice would be a 6 inch S&W 686 with 7 shot capacity.

For carry I seem to have settled into the 1911 Government light weight. Smith 1911PD in particular. After many years of Glocks SIGs and others, the 1911 IWB or Smith revolvers OWB (woods) seem to be all I need for handguns. It has been a very expensive adventure to this realization.

(I do still have a couple of XD45s for around the house quick grabs though)

1. S&W Model 10 -- recent production, 4" heavy barrel. What a shooter. I could spend hours with it and not get bored.

I read these gunslick articles on kustom $2300 1911s that shoot 1.5" groups with ammo they like, think "impressive." But then think, "an M10 costs $410 brand new and many of 'em will equal that accuracy all day with cheapo .38 roundnose or FMJ."*

2. CZ 75B. Just a rock-solid, trusted 9mm pistol. Feels great in the hand. 1000+ rounds without a stutter.

* Which doesn't mean I would turn down a $2300 kustom 1911!

J's, K's and 1911's.

My very first gun was a blue, 4" .38 (hand-me-down). The first carry gun I bought when I got my permit was a 640-1 in .357. I no longer have either.
I have bought, sold and traded all manner of handguns and been through high cap 9mm's; mini .40's; derringers, microscopic .22's and pocket autos in .25, .32 and .380. I've spent time with glocks, PPK's, Beretta's large and small and a Taurus or two...even a Raven .25!
I feel I have come "full-circle" in my tastes. J- and K-frame S+W's in .22 or .38/.357 and .45 1911's are all that really interest me anymore. Oh, sure I still get the itch now and again for some type of 9mm or hand-cannon revolver in 40-something, but I resist buying and stick to the above. If I want variety I'll go shooting with a friend and shoot something they have that I don't. Besides, I could stick to my J's, K's and 1911's and because of all the configurations and finish variations, keep buying for a very long time and never get all of 'em!

I have to agree with Vito.

The S&W 19-3. Not the strongest revolver ever made (Ruger holds that title), and not the finest (Colt Python wins...aside from Korth possibly), but as far as I'm concerned, the best revolver I could ever ask for. I love it. A year and a half ago when I bought it, it was my first. It is my favorite gun, of any that i have ever shot, and the only way I will EVER give it up, is if it is to my future children. But I have a good long while before that's ever in the cards.

I can't help but agree that these are the finest production guns available. I usually carry my .357SIG - but recently I bought an amazing holster for my P-220, and since then I've had trouble wanting to carry anything else. The fact that winter is here now just gives me all the more reason to carry my favorite full-size .45ACP.

This wonderful holster I speak of is the Bianchi Snaplok (#84) OWB, by the way. Absolutely a must have for anyone who owns or carries a P-series Sig - it fits all Sig pistols except the P230 and P232.

Other than a J-frame I own, I've sold almost everything else for 1911's. Sometimes you find a platform that is just so natural to shoot...

Springfield XD45 acp, followed by my other XD's. I trust them, and I trust both my wife & I's ability to hit what we're aiming at. Plus, they all fit the same C-tac holster for CCW.

That's the last one to go if I ever had to sell the collection.

Dan Wesson Pointman 7 1911 - for consistantly drilling holes in the center of a target.

Ruger Redhawk - for making lots of noise, smoke, recoil, and have all the little kids pointing at the hand cannon going off.

Taurus PT-99 - for plinking with a 30 round clip installed.

Oh the choices :neener: !

Like many, I buy, sell, buy, sell. My longest lasting and still with me is my P99. That's the one I keep coming back to.

There have been a lot of excellent pistols mentioned and some of them are favorites of mine but el supermeo has to be the Browning High Power for me.

S&Ws, carried a Model 10 at work, represented the Dept with a 586, shoot bullseye with a K38.

keep coming back to Ruger SAs though, Always wanted a Colt SA, but those big tough rude boy Rugers keep reeling me in.

For carry, I keep going back to one of my 5" Kimbers.

As far as buying, I keep going back to glocks. I've had two second-gen G17s (at different times), but I traded them in on something. Now I have a G19. If I can keep from trading it in on something else, I can keep from having to buy another to use as a beater.

For pure, unadulterated fun it has to be my 1858 Remington repro by Uberti. I have the el cheapo millennium finished one.
I take it out to the canyon, where there is no one around and shoot up an empty beer keg.
When my session is over, I take the keg back to the house.
Cheaper than a psychologist...

Glocks. Lots of different Glocks. Yes, they are less than attractive (took me YEARS to stop saying UGLY!) but they work. Always, every time. The Glocks work all the time with no tuning or fiddling with them. They are accurate and lightweight and all that, too.

I have other handguns and I love 1911s, having grown up on them when there wasn't anything else. I also have some Sigs that I keep coming back to. Oh, and K and J-frame Smiths, too. They are great and I usually have one around... What was the question again?;)

plain and simple, 1911A1.

have loved the design since i first fired one at 15, (not long before that i couldn't have told you anything about pistols beyound "that's a revolver and that's a automatic"). the dern thing just feels right to/for me on too many levels to explain.

my biggest gun regret at the moment is that I no longer have one in my safe, and have been unable for reasons not entirely under my control to get a new one.

I own many different handguns but I always measure them against a Sig Sauer. In my opinion, there is no finer handgun than a Sig.

I will second the nomination of SIG-SAUER classic P-series handguns;
in particular the .45 ACP P220A, and the 9m/m P228~!

I want this to be my answer, but I never seem to have the extra cash when a good P220 is available.

So, my reply is my P228 and my 2.25" Ruger SP101.

I enjoy shooting and carrying both, but lately the SIG has been getting more use.

I started with handguns in the late 60s at a very young age. I 6 inch 19 and a 6 inch 17. Those were my companions out in the country for a long time.

I went to 1911s but eventually I went back to my old frinds the K-frame revolver.

Later came the Astras, then the Sigs (I as in a shooting using at 226). I quickly abandoned the Sigs and made the rounds with other insignificant guns but I kept going back to the revolvers.

Much later I went to the Tanfoglios but I kept finding myself going back to the revolvers.

Not for some time it has been the CZ-75B and I thinik this one is going to stick but I still love the Smith revolvers. I love them so much that I carry both at the same time.

CZ-75B and Smith&Wesson revolvers have become good buddies being carried togeter. I still feel the need for more Smith&Wesson revolvers and I need a CZ-75 compact in the worst way.

The fact that I walked away from the Smith revolvers so many times then came back tells me something. To never walk away again.
