PORTLAND, Maine — The lawyer who divulged President Bush's drunken-driving arrest days before the 2000 election was arrested at gunpoint Tuesday over a Halloween stunt.
Tom Connolly was wearing a terrorist costume complete with a plastic assault rifle [/B]while trying to make a political statement for passing motorists on Interstate 295 in South Portland, police said. They arrested him Tuesday morning and charged him with criminal threatening, a misdemeanor. Initial cash bail was set at $540.
Connolly was wearing an Usama bin Laden outfit replete with a plastic dynamite belt, plastic grenades and a replica of an AK-47 assault rifle, police said.
He carried a sign that said "I love TABOR," a reference to the Taxpayer Bill of Rights on the ballot in Maine on Nov. 7. But South Portland Police Chief Ed Googins said one of the people who saw it thought it said "I love the Taliban."
So.. what we have here is a costumed protester walking the streets in a robe and a fake dynamite belt, fake grenades and fake assault rifle... but what apparently really set people off was the "I love the Taliban" sign.
SO, IS IT OK to arrest AT GUNPOINT... someone walking down the street with fake plastic weapons? Is this what is to be expected if I send a kid out to trick or treat dressed as a cowboy, complete with six-shooter? Of course, they only charged him with a misdemeanor. So, what if he 'had' reached for his plastic AK or plastic grenades and the cops shot him...
Hmm...

JERSEYVILLE, Ill. — Authorities are investigating the death of a 17-year-old boy who died after officers in this St. Louis-area community shot him twice with a stun gun while he carried a Bible and cordless telephone, shouting "I want Jesus."
So... I guess if you are uncooperative AND have a bible in your hand, the next best use of force is to use a stun gun. Just gorgeous. I assume this bible could have been used as a dangerous weapon. IMHO, I would have tried to cuff him first, or at least use OC before tasering the poor bible loving sap because he didn't listen. Oh well, thanks to the cops reckless disregard he can now communicate with Jesus personally.
I tire of this police state. Voting doesn't work. I say we run every one of these crooked perps in blue out of a job every chance we get.
