Fiber Optic Sights.

Does anyone have experience with fiber optic sights on a carry gun? My eyes aren't what they used to be and I have trouble seeing the 3 dot sights on my 1911. I shot a friends Kimber with fiber optics and could see them with no problem. Question is are the fiber optics durable enough for a carry gun or should they be used only for a competion gun?

I have several times kicked the inserts out of fibre optic sights on my IDPA guns. Not often relative to the number of shots fired, but it still happens. There is still the post with hole to aim with in emergency. My carry guns have either night sights or painted steel blades.

With a hard holster that will protect the sight you might be OK, IWB kydex comes to mind. With a soft holster I don't see the fiber lasting long.

I have them on competition guns and haven't had any problem with them, but they are protected in my holster. I have used the same fiber for 8000 rounds or so on a 40 firing full power ammo, changed it just because I have new fibers.

These are durable and bright. TRUGLO Brite-Site. Tritium/fiber optic-All Metal. Once in place...they're not moving.

One of my .40 BHP's has had a set for about 2 years now. This one gets carried IWB quite a lot and no problems so far.

HiViz has several new design FO sights that look to be very durable.

I run them on my competition pistols and have yet to lose a rod, but I am sure that can happen. I also have a set on my home defense G21. I don't think I would worry too much about that as it is unlikely to happen at the moment you need it, and as another poster mentioned the blade is still there.

Just put these on, no experience at the range yet. My eyes are not what they used to be so what the hell.
