I need a good safe for my handguns. Are there any really good small safes out there? About 12" x 12" ? The ones I run across are either entirely too large or too flimsy looking (especially in the size I want).

Any help would be appreciated.

I have this one. $25 at Wal-Mart.

It feels solid, though I would not call it a "safe". I bought it to prevent the unintentional use of my handguns by five small children. It can also hole documents, but is not fire or water proof.

I've been really pleased with this safe from walmart:

It has a quick 'no look' keypad on top and a spring loaded door. Similar safes cost twice as much and the quality is top notch.

Cannon Safe Co. makes a safe called the GunVault. It comes in two sizes, to hold either one or two handguns. Its very sturdy. It has a four finger keypad that you program for access, even in the dark it is easy to use. I guess the question is what you want the safe for. The GunVault is what I keep in my bedside stand, so I can get my gun very quickly if needed for home defense (when you enter the code the front flips open automatically), but I don't worry about my grandchildren getting access to this loaded firearm. I bought it about 2 years ago for about $100, and I have been more than pleased with it.

I just checked the website for Cannon Safe Co and it appears they no longer sell the GunVault. But if you Google GunVault you'll find dealers without a problem. The price I just saw was $119.

I use the GunVault also, not for theft, of course, as the thief could simply carry it away, but to keep small fingers off my carry handguns while I'm home or near. If I'm away, those that aren't with me are all locked in a safe.

the size would need to hold 5 handguns. kind of a weird size for a safe.

Hi Sjack...

Are you wanting it for theft protection or youngster protection, or both?
