Unless your doing something extensive or having you Star refinished I would counsel against detail stripping it. It you mess something up, parts are very hard to find.

How do you replace the captive recoil spring?
How do you replace the mainspring?

The end of the guide rod is supposed to uncscrew. I'm sure some of them haven't been off for a lot of years so it may be very hard to get off. I would suggest soaking it in some penetrative oil before you try getting it off.

Got it. Thanks.
Thats what I figured. Which end has the threads? I've done might near everything short of a vise and a pair of vise grips on the dang thing. Maybe the previous owner put some 'Lock-Tite' on the threads. Gonna soak it in diesel fuel overnight..If that don't work, I'll put some heat to it. Sure hope I don't break anything.

I'm thinking of trying to slip the end of the spring around the collar and just unscrewing it to get it off. I'm not sure if that will work but it might be the only wya to get mine off!
