3) DIY or gunsmith?

Thanks

1) Where to get part(s)?
Any number of sources, eBay lists Remington factory originals sometimes, several other brands available as well, see various threads here for evaluations of different brands by different members (the SEARCH THIS FORUM function on the index page is your friend, just search "magazine extension"...).

2) How much will it cost?
Depends on brand and source, likely from about $30 up.

3) DIY or gunsmith?
Remove magazine cap, remove magazine spring retainer, remove original magazine spring, install new longer magazine spring, screw on extension, install barrel clamp (that's with plus-2 extensions). I have ten thumbs and I can do it myself
...

Plus-2 extension fits 18" barrels, plus-3 fit 20" barrels, no need to go longer than plus-3, probably a good idea to use an aftermarket follower with a 'tail' on plus -3 extensions with longer springs, barrel clamps are a necessity no matter what brand extension you use. The weak point is the magazine itself, the extension acts as a lever if it gets bumped and can easily damage the magazine tube threads.

The ones from Scattergun Technologies / Wilson Combat (http://www.wilsoncombat.com/index_sgt_part_acc.htm) are pretty nice.
