I am trying to find out what the production years were for the Stevens Model 86C .22 bolt action rifle. So far I have struck out over at rimfirecentral. Anyone have the pertinent information?

According to the Gun Traders Guide, the "Stevens-Springfield 86" was made from '35 to '65. They stopped using the Springfield a name on them in '48. That narrows it down a little. Come to think of it, I've never seen a 86A or B.

Thanks John. Love these old rifles, wood and steel. Shoot forever if you take reasonable care of them.

I saw one of these in good shape, but there was no serial number on it. Does that help to place its date of production? It had the tubular mag, open sights, and the black cap on the stock tip. It was not marked Springfield.

It seemed like a fair price at $125 and is in danger of following me home. :) Like Oldnamvet, I love the old rifles.

Thanks,
Dirty Bob
