I have acquired a "Metropolitan Police" seven shot 22 rimfire revolver. Can anyone help me with a little history of this weapon?

The "Metropolitan Police" was one of that large group of small, inexpensive revolvers made from roughly 1880-1910 and usually called "suicide specials" since many people thought they were good for only one shot. Most were better than that, and the Hopkins and Allen-made Metropolitan Police was one of the better ones. They sold for anywhere from $1 to $4 at the time.

There is a mild collectors interest in those guns, but only in almost perfect condition, which very few are. Value, unless there is some unique factor (like proven ownership by some prominent person), runs well under $100.

The name, by the way, is pure hype. No police department ever used or issued those guns.
