Ruger P345 Slide lock

Does anyone else who owns a Ruger P345 have any issues with their slide-lock-release? My mags are fine, it's just the lever for the slide release is really hard to push down. With both of my Walthers, I can easily release the slide with a flick of my thumb. But with my new Ruger, I almost have to use 2 hands to push it down to release the slide forward, mag or no mag. And could this be only because it's brand new? Do you think it will get easier over time?

Mine drops with my thumb, with light pressure.:)

Was it like that from day 1?

It's always been easy. Look for a burr on the slide, smooth it up with some 320 on a popsickle stick.

The slide release on my P345 is fine -- one-thumb operation. However, the slide lock on my 22/45 (last generation, Mk. II) behaves much as you describe it. Maybe it's an occassional thing with Rugers.

I think the problem is the amount of surface area to apply the pressure to. Ruger kept the slide release as thin as possible so the p345 would be more suitable for CCW.

I can do it, but it makes my thumb sore after a few times.

is there ammo in the mag when you are trying to drop the slide? If not,t hat is why it is so hard to push...you are fighting the mag spring. That can be tough on a 1911 too

It does it with no mag, an empty mag, and a full mag.

And I agree about the narrowness of the slide release. Are there after-market replacements that have a little more surface area to push with your thumb?

It looks *very* ugly when I try to release the slide on that sometimes -- awkward, and not too safe-looking (though I keep it pointing down-range).

Other times, it acts as expected -- light touch of the thumb. And this is only on first charging it; btw; once a single round is chambered, it will shoot through the magazine with no problem.

I fixed it :) What I did was file down the notch on the slide that the lever catches. It used to be a rectangular notch with right angles. Well I took a small file and filed down the part that catches so it has a slight angle/curve to it. It still locks back fine, but take a lot less pressure to release. Now it feels only slightly harder than both of my Walthers.
