While shooting my 629, the rear sight flew off. Obviously, I canít find the screw that held it in place. What size screw does this thing take? And how would you put it back on? It looks to be very tough to have to push the sight down and start the screw the way the sight is made. Any help would be appreciated.

You can use a C clamp or spring clamp to help. Install with clean threads and put a drop of blue Locktite on it.

You can buy new screws direct from S&W, or from Brownell's, Gun Parts and many other sources.

There are two versions, the early type is smaller than the late type which has a bigger head.

I bought this gun used back in í87 so Iím going to assume it is the early type. Iíll have to contact Smith to see about getting a screw. Thanks. I just hope I can get it back together.

Don't buy "a" screw. Splurge and buy several just in case. They are a whole $1.50 each.

Smith just E-mailed me back on the screws and told me to call. I called and told them I wanted four screws because Iíll lose the first two getting the sight back on. They are going to send four screws free of charge. Woman said she was not going to charge me for a few dollars worth of screws and some shipping. I thought that was pretty darn nice of them for a gun thatís over 20 years old. Hats off to Smith and Wesson.
