Rifled chokes are for use with sabots only. A rifled slug with fight the rifling in a rifled choke and cause the slug to be unstable and unreliable. Rifled chokes work great with sabots (almost as good as a fully rifled barrel in my experience).

rifled slug in a smooth barrel with a mod. or I.C. choke?
or
sabot in a smooth barrel with a rifled choke?

OK, well first off, I wouldn't shoot a rifled slug through anything tighter than IC with straight cyl being best. That being said, it's really a matter of economics. You should get much better performance from a sabot in a rifled choke than a rifled slug through a cyl choke, but both the sabots and the rifled choke are more expensive than the other option.

Don't tell my deer 870 it's got the wrong choke tube for non sabot slugs. It's gone close to 100% since about 1990 and brought in a messa venison.
IME, a rifled choke tube does well with most Forster and Brenekke slugs. Worth trying...

I use a rifled choke in my Winchester 1300. The sabots I use are the partition gold or platinums made by Winchester.

My Remington 870 performs extremely well with the rifled choke tube and Federal rifled slugs.
This is from the Remington Website:RIFLED REM™ CHOKE TUBES
• Adds rifling to smooth bore barrels equipped for Rem™ Chokes
• Adds rotational stability to Foster-type and sabot slugs as they exit the
muzzle
• Improves accuracy and shot placement
• Available in 12-gauge only
