Rattling / Grunting during gun?

Anyone considering rattling or grunting on the opening day of gun season? I've tried it towards the end of the season, but I'm debating giving it a shot just before shooting light in the tree stands the first couple days this year. I've had younger bucks come in on it when I'm in a ground blind later in the season, but by then all the big guys are holed up and can't really be coaxed out during daylight. Anyone want to make a suggestion one way or the other?

It's attractive to big bucks when the weather is really cold and they're heavy into the rut. No telling what a little buck will do; they're young and stupid and subject to do most anything.

Working solo is difficult. If you're in a stand, the bigger and smarter bucks don't think their enemies hide in tree houses. They'll come part way and then get suspicious. They didn't get big by being stupid.

If you're on the ground, time is your enemy. See the buck coming in, drop the horns, pick up the rifle, and watch the buck go away from all that monkey motion. :)

The South TExas deal, generally, was go out on a really cold, still morning and one guy rattles while the other guy is ready to shoot.

Go for it, and let us know how/if it works for you.

My experience has been that deer are going to do whatever the deer are going to do. :D

Yeah, it's looking to be a warm season unfortunately. Last year was bad, but the ankle-deep snow made them easy to pick out at least. When I rattled last year I was in ground blinds too.

I'll be right around there. Season starts Saturday the 18th at first light. And to think, I bought a snow cover suit for hanging out in the birches and arctic underoos. I might be sweating in one layer of insulated pants and a coat.
