Wrong Primers

Hey Guys, just found this site, man what alot of info. I have been reloading for about a year now and considered myself as being attentive to what I was doing. Well, I was running low on 270 ammo and with hunting season in full swing here I quickly loaded up a couple boxes. I loaded some Sierra 140g BTHP with 58 grains of IMR 7828 in Winchester Nickle cases and mistakenly used CCI 200 primers instead of the recommended magnum primer. What do yall think, pull all the bullets and reprime or do yall think these will be ok?

You got an eraser (bullet pullder):uhoh: ?? If the manual recommends Magnum primers I'd start over. There must be a reason they want magnum primers.

I don't re-load for the 270, nor do I re-load using IMR7828 but I have never found magnum primers to have any effect on cartridge performance. Given my lack of experience with your particular load: YMMV.
A target set out at 200 yds will tell you what you want to know.

msgrep, mistakes happen when you're in a hurry, don't they?
I don't see your load in the sierra manual, where'd you get it? Also sierra recommends WLR primers for their loads.
Only advise I'd give is that load would probably be okay as long as you would be hunting in above zero temps. IMR 7828 is a slow burning "stick",(extruded), powder that might not ignite at very cold temps.
If you had errored in the other dirrection, substituting a mag primer where a standard force primer had been used, then I'd suggest you pull them apart.
Another question you didn't mention, had this load been tried before?

Yes, its not in their book, I got the load from one of the reloading sites on the web, cant for the life of me remember which one. I recently started using it. I can get 1 1/2" at 100 yds out of it. So far this year I have three whitetails with it.

I have seen ammo not go off, like 45 Colt with H110 and a wimpy crimp.
But I have never seen a CCI200 too wimpy to set off a rifle cartridge.
I have shot 175 gr in 7mm mag with 65 gr H4831c, and CCI200 primer, and works great. That has to be as hard to ignite as the 270.
I think that the 270 will shoot with the CCI200.
IMR is just using a WLR for that load

I don't think 57.2 gr is any easier to ignite than 58 gr.
That cross references to the CCI200

So there you go.

The best advice is when you change components, work the load back up again so that it is safe in your gun! There is no other sound advice beyond breaking down the errantly loaded ammo to recover the components.
