Negative. There are no advantages to that platform that cant be had with traditional weapon systems right now.

You can get a USAS-12 from Mr. Klomont (http://www.klomont.com/dd.htm) if you are willing to pay a $200 tax, wait for NFA permission, and pay the $3000 for the gun. I guess it would be worth it though.

BTW, Mr. Lomont also sells a select-fire version (semi - full) version of the USAS-12, but it is a post-86 MG :(

Back in the dark ages a gentleman by the name of Maxwell Atchisson invented a shotgun that looked like an M-16 on steroids. He called it the Assault Shotgun- it could be fed from a drum magazine and was capable of selective fire. The prototype was built in 1972.

The design lives on as the AA-12. Give it a Google for pictures...

Saiga makes shotguns based upon the AK design. Many people have posted good things about them on several sites. Inexpensive and good reliability.

I actually thought the Atchisson (http://world.guns.ru/shotgun/sh29-e.htm) looked more like a Thompson. Of course the forearms are very M-16ish.
