Until very recently, was of course my P95 with 147 grn Hydrashoks. Having got the P97 now tho .. have been toting that and filled with Rem UMC 230 grn JHP L45AP. Not my first choice but they do feed well and look much like Hydrashoks but without the internal ''spike''.

Will look for some fed ammo when i can. So this gives me 7+1 and spare mag of 7.

Soon as hotter tho .. gonna have to be back to M87 snub and 110 grn Hydrashoks.

Nice carry ensemble. I do wish the polymer Kahrs fit my hand a little better...the thin grip feels like a popsicle stick to me. I've been seriously looking at an MK9, though.

Here's my daily carry, a customized Springfield Loaded Stainless. It rides in a Galco Summer Comfort. Carry load is the Remington Golden Saber 185gr. +P load.

Daily carry items not in the picture are the Bianchi double mag carrier for the weak side, the Kel-Tec P32 in the UM pocket holster, and the Chris Reeve Sebenza folder.

Howdy,

Here are my two primary carry weapons:

Primary-HK USP45 Compact, Speer Gold Dot 230 grain, Milt Sparks IWB Holster

Backup-S&W 342PD, Magsafe Defender, Kramer Pocket Holster

I carry one spare USP mag and two speed strips of 5 rounds, plus Punch II M-3 OC, a cell phone, and a Spyderco knife.

I am sometimes known to carry a Kel-Tec P32 instead of the 342, a USP40 Compact, a Kahr K40, or my duty weapon, a S&W 6946.

When I can carry. I carry either a Sig P225, Kahr K9, or a Ruger SP101. I always try to carry some type of knife. Currently it is some type of Benchmade automatic. Of course since I recently got a P32 it is almost always with me.

My carry depends on mode of dress. Right now its a Colt Mustang Pocketlite with Hydrashocks and a Benchmade 940.
When I carry a big gun its usually a fullsize 1911. either my SW1911 or my Colt Combat Elite depending on environment conditions.
The SW goes boating and out on super hot sweaty days.
The Colt goes everywhere else.

lendringser wrote: Nice carry ensemble. I do wish the polymer Kahrs fit my hand a little better...the thin grip feels like a popsicle stick to me. I tend to agree. Though it is comfortable enough to put 50 to 100 rounds of +P Gold Dots through in a short sitting, I think it would be even more confortable with an additional 1-2mm thickness, arched, on each side of the grip. I don't think it's so much the dimensions as much as the total flatness.

Dainel: I really want to be able to carry a 1911. I did for some time, a few different full five-inchers and a Commander but they were all just too heavy or too... I don't, too something! Of course, maybe I'm just too lazy! ;)

Before too long, I want to get a Springfield Compact and have a small bit of work done and see how I like that - lighter weight and smaller in every dimension. Maybe a slight carry bevel, front checkering, new MSH, smooth grips and a trigger job if needed. As much as I love the 1911, I almost feel like a traitor not carrying one but this one works out for me pretty well.

Smith & Wesson 637 in a Galco pancake holster. 110 grain .38 special JHP.

After tonights range session, going back to the Glock 19 with Cor-bon 115 grain 9mm +p JHP. It had a slightly misaligned sight, I asked the store I bought it from to adjust it for me (this is very easy for me, they are about 1 mile from my house). Guy accidentally adjusted it the wrong way. Made plenty of jokes at his expense. Went to the range with him, he adjusted it right. Now it is shooting correctly again.

cratz2- What kind of belt and holster setup do you use?

I carry the Kahr in a High Noon Hidden Alley holster and and one of two cheap leather belts that I always wear. With the 1911, I also used a Summer Special 2. At one point I had a nice heavy 1.5" leather belt I bought at a gunshop but, sadly, I outgrew it a little bit. :p

I'm going to keep with the Kahr for a while and maybe give the Springfield Compact a chance whenever I get around to picking one up.

I left my Gerber under the house when I had to crawl deep down in there and dig the ancient cat mummy out of the insulation after one of our cats went missing and something dead started really stinking under there and I had my hands full with the mummy, and I couldn't find whatever it was that had recently crawled up there and died, and then our cat Clint (Eastwood) came home and the dead thing turned into flies and flew away so I really have no reason to go back under there and I'm not gonna do it just to conform to THR photo-op protocols, I'm sure you understand and isn't that a good excuse?

I'll just go to WalMart and buy another one for twenty-five bucks. Thanks for the reminder.

Umm, carry, and the reasons for it, are a personal thing.

A Hi Power, ammo, J frame, and knife(s) weigh a lot less than what I carry all day at work. And some folks carry a lot more than that. It can be, and is, done.

I do know some folks with genuine medical or similiar issues. I can understand if they can't do something, like wear a gun or grasp things with their hands. Time for some of that nasty hot coffee.

Browning Hi-Power loaded with 9mm NATO. Did a little self-customization work. :) Haven't put the rear white dot sight on yet. I tried the Uncle Mike's rubber grips modeled after the Spegel, but didn't like them because the gun is too slippery without the rubber in the front and rear and doesn't really get any thinner in the grip for concealability. Just wasn't worth it to me! Anyways, now I have two extra sets of UM's grips. ;) Couldn't stand the gold trigger, so it got changed to a chromed one and of course the magazine disconnect safety was removed long ago. I thought the gun was shooting left as I posted on the 1911 forums awhile back, but I found out it was just my crappy shooting technique.

Carry it with factory 13 rounders or 15 round Mec-Gar mags (pictured in the gun) and a spare or two in a sideways mag pouch. I currently have a Bianci Pistol Pocket for IWB, but don't like it because it doesn't cover the left side of the gun which digs into my side. I plan on special ordering a Sparks VM2 with a retention strap. I don't have a pic of my Swiss army knife ;) Backup piece is on the right; a 9mm American Derringer. Look they're fighting, I better separate them. :D I wanna get some stag grips for the derringer.

May 25, 2003, 03:40 AM
Nope. :) They are not varnished or covered with that urethane stuff. Hogue just puts a thin layer of carnuba wax on their wood grips. Whether you choose to keep waxing them is up to you as it will wear off.
I have Hogue smooth wood on a bunch of pistols and revolvers and even in Georgia's heat I have yet to have a problem.

Hmm, ok. Personally, I'd never put smooth wood on a gun though. I don't even like the smooth wood on my derringer. I'm going to a stag grip since nobody makes rubber grips. Your grips look nice, but the grips on my derringer are just plain and blah dull. I really like the looks of a stag grip on derringers anyways.

My current primary carry pistol is an "enhanced" Colt Government Model with a Combat Elite slide. This pistol was cobbled together out of parts, and it is part of an experiment. I have never carried a blued pistol nor one with adjustable sights. While my NRM stainless 1991 is getting some work done to it, I decided to see how much wear the blued finish and adjustable sights will take as part of my daily carry routine in the humid Georgia summer. The attached picture shows my FrankenColt. It is carried in a Sparks Summer Special or Kramer IWB#2. Ammo is 230-grain Golden Saber.

My BUG is an S&W 342PD carried in a Kramer pocket holster. Ammo is Nyclad hollowpoint.

I bought the Tekna knife shown in the early '80s. I have 5 different knives that they produced. The knife is about 3/16" thick. You open it by pressing and sliding the oblong button seen on the top face of the knife with your thumb. It locks in both the open and closed position. It opens and closes very quick. I have been looking for another one of these, but haven't seen one for awhile.

I have carried a 1911 and or a BHP (CCW) for 16 years. I usually carry some type of pocketknife. Can someone please explain to me the use of a "tactical" knife? If you can't kill someone with a pistol, I guess you will pull out the trusty tactical folder and finish the job that the gun you were carrying wasn't up to the task for. Is this a joke? (Marketing concept maybe)

Usually some form of 1911. Either a Kimber Classic Stainless, Stainless Ultra Carry, or now a Springfield Armory Ultra Compact 9mm.

Ammunition is Winchester White Box in .45/230 or 9/147. I always carry at least one spare magazine.

Today I'll carry the UC9, since the Ultra Carry is at the 'smith having night sights and an ambi-safety installed.

bc:)

Allan,

I can't speak for everyone, but the reasons I carry a knife are very simple.

It's very difficult, way too loud, dangerous and I have to assume painful, to clean my fingernails with a .45 ACP... ;)

Not very tactical I know, but effective none the less.

No covering garment: Kel-Tec P3AT - right front pants pocket.

With covering garment: Kimber Ultra Shadow Lim. Ed. II in Milt Sparks Yaqui BS [Soon to change to: Wilson KZ-45 Compact], with Kershaw 4" folder.

Some past choices, in chronological order: Glock 27, Glock 29, Glock 30, Kel-Tec P32, Wilson KZ-45 full-sized (Hmm, guess I like tupperware, though my favorite pistol is non-carry and all steel, a Springfield Loaded V16 longslide).

On duty:
ParaOrd C7.45 Companion, 4 extra Wilson mags 230 Ranger Plus-P
Bianchi Accumold holster, Uncle Mikes pouch
Camillus 5.5 Cuda, ASP Baton, Pepper Spray

Off duty
Customized Colt LW Officer's, 2 spare mags, same ammo
OLD Bianchi pistol pocket, or belt slide(awaiting arrival of Sparks VM2H)
Cuda

I have an old Chief's special that I carry for back up in pocket rig.
Sometimes use aforementioned Officer's model as backup instead.
Looking at Kahr PM9 to replace Chiefs as pocket blaster.

Answer to Allan's question.....
Blade is a back up carried opposite pistol as an aid in weapons retention, should someone get that close. You never want them that close, but it can and does happen! Actually had an idiot guest grab for mine in a crowd at a hotel where I work...he got a elbow in the solar plexus and was somewhat amazed to see over five inches of cold steel pointing at his throat as he tried to catch his breath. He said..it was just a joke...I said....'real funny, ya think?' Doubt he'll try that stupid caca again!
Also useful as an emergency prybar, cutting seat belts, boxes, etc.
A Protection Specialist I know likes his Tanto for close work in crowds..using the butt as an impact tool...edge handy, if required....he said it does not stampede the sheep as much
