Can anyone tell me about the Mossberg Plinkster?

The wife and I were in Gander Mtn. today, picking her up some .35 rem, and she came across one of these, and liked it a lot, especially the sights, as she has a hard time when the rear sight is too near her eye. As they're only a $99.00 rifle, I gotta ask, are they any good? I'm building an 'Oh My God' accurate .22 for serious shooting, and this would be a feral tin can kind of plinker. So, are they reliable? reasonably accurate?

I've got one. It feeds regular ammo pretty well but it can't feed the 60 grain stuff at all. It's as "reasonably accurate" as you would expect any off the shelf .22 to be. It's light, easy to shoot, and has all weather furniture on it. I think for $100 it's a reasonable gun. If you're looking for something cheap to plink cans with then I'd say grab one.

I will warn you it's a bit of a pain in the but to strip it down for a full cleaning. I usually just spray might out and use a bore snake on it and it seems to do fine.

Been a few weeks, but guy in the next lane at the range was shooting a Plinkster. Don't remeber which model, but he was shooting as good as me with my 10/22.

For a sub-$100 .22LR rifle, hard to beat that value.

a litttle of topic but i fell in love with the remington 597 if it had a little higher cap. magazine the 597 would be near perfect for the price

i had one for awhile.

never had a malfunction, put about 1500 rounds through it. only fed it federal bulk 40gr. hv.

i didnt really like how it fit me, just a bit off feeling.

i didnt like the trigger, too skinny with too much creep. kind of gritty.

very annoying to break it all the way down.

i didnt like sights, they were "chunky" and didnt allow very good precision at 50 yards. my rear sight was also unadjustable for some reason, it would start to cant and get all wierd if i moved it either way.

For the money, it was fine. I sold it and got a 10/22. added some tech sights and now im 100% happy, AND have 100,000 add ons i can do in the future.

the Plinkster is modeled after the Marlin 70 & 795 series of rifles. ive never shot a mossy plinkster, but if you want quality, try looking at the Marlin 795.

mine was accurate right out of the box, trigger was pretty good!. they sell at Gander for between $120-$140. i guess i would rather buy a gun from a company known for it's quality .22's than a company know primarily for shotguns. plus, i would rather buy an original than a copy. -Eric

it's kinda like a sythetic mod 60. It is a very decent outdoor little rifle, and that schnabel fore-end makes it easy for offhand shots. So yeah, it's good for lots of all kinds of shooting.

I never liked the one I had. Bought a 10/22 and am much happier. I gave the Plinkster away........

I've had mine for about a year now, and have been very happy with it. It outshoots my friends POS 10/22 by a wide margin:D (flame suit on) Just be sure to remove the factory lube job before you shoot it; otherwise it'll foul up pretty quick. I added a 4X scope and a supersling, it's been a great small game gun. Without going into the 400+ range, I would not choose any other .22. Good luck

Well, I bought one and four extra mags for her and she loves it. I just put a BSA Sweet 22 scope on it (hey, this is a really nice scope for 52.00), but it's too doggone cold to sight it in right now. Thanks for the replies!
