Once in awhile, I run across a neat old revolver in .38S&W. Usually, they don't cost more than two hundred bucks, and would make a neat plinker/novelty.

However, nobody seems to make .38S&W ammo anymore. Does anybody? If so, where do you get it? And, just to settle my curiosity, can you fire .38 S&W ammo out of a .38 Special revolver?

I see .38S&W ammo on the shelves in my local gun shop regularly. IIRC both Remington and Winchester still make it. I can't say for sure that you can shoot .38S&W in a .38Spl or .357Mag as I've never tried it. A good friend of mine has an Enfield revolver in .380/200 (the Brit name for .38S&W) and I got him some Starline brass but I'm having a bit of trouble finding a set of dies cheap enough for him.:D

Nightcrawler, Remington still lists the .38 S&W cartridge using a 146gr. lead nose bullet as their order number R38SW. You'll probably have to order it from your favorite gun shop. Hope this helps!

The web of the 38 SW is to wide for chambering in a standard 38 special. Though you might find one that will chamber, but the 38 Sw is tapered like the 9 X19.

What few of the guys in the old gun club use to do was use the 38 special sizing die and a 9mm luger seating die. Since the round is pretty low pressure the results more than worked for them.

But i bet if you contacted RCBS or Lee..They might be able to come up with the right set reasonably.
