Does anyone here shoot IDPA with a light gun?

Call me crazy, and some guys I shoot with do, but I love to shoot IDPA with my Kimber Ultra Carry with factory loads. Yeah, I'm slower and not quite as acurate, but, darn it, I think it's part of the fun. I just started a couple of months ago. I may try my full sized CZ 75 next time just to note the difference. I doubt if it will change my mind, though. Having said that, I'm not the kind of guy who drools over guns like the new S&W .50 cal, I just don't think that the .45 ACP, even in the Ultra Carry platform, is not all that punishing. Any thoughts on this from you guys?

dad shoots every type of pistol match with his lightweight commander, bullseye, tactical pistol, you name it. i'm pretty sure he subscribes to the "fear the man with one gun",or (updated for modern times) the ph33r th3 d00d wi7h 0n3 g47! principle.

I've only used my Kimber Pro Carry (aluminum frame) in .40SW.

Works fine for me.

My light gun doesnt have a trigger guard, so I'm not sure its IDPA legal:

Karn,
Yeah, but is it concealable? :D Oh, and how can you stand the recoil? ;)

Its very concealable, I just wear a trenchcoat as my cover garment. Recoil is non-existant, I started shooting this particular model when I was 7 years old.

There are plenty of competitive shooters slinging plastic, i.e. glocks; that's pretty light, esp. if you aren't using one of the long-slide editions (e.g., 34). I shoot a 17, but I would clearly NOT be an example of a 'competitive shooter' ;)

Used my Commander Lightwieght a few times, fun but not as accurate as my HP clone. You DO notice a difference when all you have is 7 shot magazines.

I also found that using my 200gr semiwadcutter reloads (800fps) were no where near as reliable as shooting 230gr ball ammo, but I've never polished the ramp or done any mods to that pistol. Mainly, I set it aside because it was cheaper to shoot 9mm, and I was more accurate with the 9.

I shoot IDPA with my USP .45 Compact. Right now I'm using reloads, but I know I need to up the powder charge on the next batch to get closer to a factory load... I don't know if the current ones are even IDPA 'legal'.

I believe in shooting the IDPA with I carry, and I carry a Kimber CDP Pro. It has been 100% reliable in the two matches I've shot this year and I am 100% pleased with it.

I carry a Glock 21 every day. I compete with the same gun. All I do is change the ammo. The ammo I shoot in competition is factory equivalent.
