I purchased a 20 g stevens 311 that I intend to use as my "grouse gun". Are there any parts that typically wear out on this gun that I may want to buy to put away for a rainy day? Thanks!

stevehaun, The 311 Stevens is a pretty well made gun. I have several, and have not had any parts break or wear out. I have seen several used 311's, however, that had problems latching properly. (The "top snap" parts group.......)

I have one that is in need of a new firing pin, just haven't gotten around to taking it to the smith. Other than that its a pretty tough shotgun.

I located a Stevens 311 12 gauge, used. It's about (I am guessing) 15 to 20 years old, but looks half decent for its age. About how much should i expect to pay? I am looking at it for squirrel and rabbit, location into which I WILL NOT carry my new Remington Wingmaster.

The store is asking $359.00, is that reasonable? Do they still manufacture these?

Both of my stevens 311's have issues with the firing pins not returning fully into the receiver after discharge - I think this is just a spring issue, but I haven't had time to mess with it...

Before anyone jumps me, I Haven't been trying to close them on live shells in this condition - they're temporarily retired.

I have a '52 Stevens 12 ga with the latch problem.
It sometimes does not return to center after opening a prevents the barrels from closing unless I move the latch back by thumbing it.

I suppose I should fix it but I don't use it much.
If it were a dedicated field gun I would have in done

I have one in 12ga and it's a good shotgun. I have read that the stocks do tend to crack where it meet the receiver, mine was and I replaced it with a new walnut stock.

I used it one day last deer season to take a doe.:)
