Fleet Farm license adventure!

I went into the Germantown Fleet Farm to get my deer license. It was an exercise in futility. The conversation went like this: High school employee after handing her my license from last year," Do you have your hunters safety card?" Me, "I took hunters safety when I was 12 years old in Ohio, so no I don't have it. However being a veteran I'm not required to have one." Employee, "Well do you have your military ID?" Me, "I've been off active duty since February 2004. It would be a federal offense to still have my ID. But you have my license from last year in your hands with my DNR number on it... If you don't believe me you can take two minutes to call the DNR to verify it." Employee, " Sorry, I can't help you sir.":cuss: :banghead: :barf:
So I went to the new Cabella's and was taken care of in less than ten minutes. I even bought a box of Winchester super X 150's in that time.:D

THAT'S SO FUNNY!!!!

I stopped there yesterday around 2:30, before our movie at the Marcus. I gave the young lady my small game lic from THIS YEAR and I was asked to show my hunters saftey card. End of story, no lic for Steve w/o the card.

I stopped at Gander down the street and was done in 5 min. (and then Cabelas...money sucking store)

SO, with her not selling me my license cost my wife about $200 worth of gear and the next two stores I stopped at.

My initial response:fire:
My end of day:)
My Wife's :cuss:

oh well, fun in WI. Good luck this weekend!

You can do this here as well. The WI DNR website allows the purchase of licenses and permits on-line. Some licenses you can print at home yourself, while others need to be mailed to you.

I had no problems purchasing my license from Ace Hardware. Nor would I have had a problem at FleetFarm.

Employees are typically following direction passed down through management or fellow employees, and many places of employment have horrible training programs.

If I encounter a problem (such as the OP encountered) I'll always allow the manager(s) the opportunity to retain my business by politely requesting management assistance. This doesn't always solve all situations, but it's a start.

Also, to save yourself the trouble and headache, you could have borrowed one of their pamphlets that they give out with license purchases and showed the employee the following DNR statement:

Hunter Education Requirements:
Persons born on or after January 1, 1973, must present their Hunter Education certificate, last year’s hunting license, or proof of successful completion of basic training in the U.S. Armed Forces, Reserves or National Guard to purchase any hunting license. A certificate of successful completion of a Bow Hunter Education course can be used to purchase an archery license. Contact your local DNR office for course information or visit our web site at dnr.wi.gov.
