I've read this book, and I throughly enjoyed it. Kinda short, but lots of good action. Most definitely worth reading if you're a military buff, or if you're just interested in what it's really like to be a sniper. Here's a link to it on Amazon.com http://www.amazon.com/Marine-Sniper-Charles-W-Henderson/dp/0425103552/sr=1-3/qid=1163380696/ref=pd_bbs_3/102-5531165-4864934?ie=UTF8&s=books

Enjoy!

Ya. You dont wanna miss it. All serious long-gunners I know have read it. Good overview of career of Carlos Hathcock. They usually sell as fast as I put em out in my used book store. Wish I had a steady supply. :) I had a signed hardcover copy without dust jacket I sold for several C-notes within a couple of weeks of listing it. Look online at abebooks.com, should be able to find used paperbacks pretty cheap.

Try this one from Amazon too. It was very interesting.

Carlos Hathcock "Whitefeather" by Roy F Chandler

White Feather is the only authorized biography of Gunnery Sergeant Carlos Hathcock II, who was recognized as the most successful sniper in the Vietnam War with more than 93 confirmed kills. The book White Feather is written by brothers Roy and Norm Chandler, who publish military shooting publications through Iron Brigade Publishing, a Jacksonville, North Carolina based corporation. As Marine Sniper, a best seller for nine years relayed his heroism in Vietnam, White Feather covers Carlos' entire career and the other details not found in any other title. Written in true "Chandler" format, this volume covers, from beginning to end, the story and tales of a true Marine Corps legend and last American Hero. As far as biographies go, this book will forever immortalize Hathcock, who passed away Feb. 1999.

Both Books well worth the price and are two of the best books I have read on the men of the Corps, But I'm a little bias

Henderson's book contains many fabrications and exaggerations - "sea stories", to use the old expression - that do a disservice to a great Marine. For that reason, I tend to recommend Chandler's book as being rather more accurate.

Could you please elaborate on this comment? Maj. Dick Culver, who had been Hathcock's CO and OIC, considers Henderson a very accurate and reliable writer.

The "fiction" portions of the book are the parts where Henderson writes the thoughts of Hathcock's opponents. Short of a crystal ball, how would Henderson know what someone else was thinking? He didn't and admits that he exercised artistic license to that limited extent. So, does it destroy the credibility of the book? Not in my opinion.

So, besides Marine Sniper by Henderson and White Feather by Rocky Chandler, you might also consider Shadow Warrior which is Henderson's sequal which he wrote from the rejected parts of Marine Sniper and subsequent investigation in (now friendly) Vietnam.

If you get bored, read this thread Bedtime Stories (http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=36853) here at TFL on the forerunners of today's snipers.

I enjoyed it. I liked the part where his Gunny is showing how holding off properly can allow you to make longe range shots with a 1911.

I thought this was one of the first books assigned in Gunnut 101.

Marine Sniper is a must read. Its a classic about a true hero (not because of his 93 confirmeds, and over 200 probables, but because of the actions that led to his silver star.)

You gotta read this book!!
