Anyone out there know if, all other things being equal, a 1918/1919 Model M1911 is more or less desirable than a Colt M1911A1?

A buddy just picked up a good-condition M1911 (s/n 507,XXX, IIRC) from a neighbor for $300 and I'm trying to convince him not to sell it before he has more info. I've already asked him to put me first in line if he sells, but I believe it's worth a fair bit more than he paid.

Thanks in advance for any info,

Rick

Everything will depend on condition and originality. Original means all original parts and original finish.

If in excellent, original condition, prices will start at the 2K mark. Specific variations can drive it up further if there is a collector wanting that variation. Mint condition has the same effect. If it is less than excellent condition, it will still command $800-1200 if all original.

If unoriginal and in poor condition, it is still worth $500 or so as a historical shooter.
