Orlando Gang Unit Makes Huge Gun Bust
ORLANDO, Fla. -- A simple stop turned into a huge gun bust for an Orlando gang enforcement officer Sunday night.
A loaded AK-47, two pistols, and even a fake gun were reportedly found inside a car while it was parked at the Woodlake Villas Complex.

Wow - I am so not impressed. Must be a slow news day.

Look for more stories of the same nature as the press tries to whip up support for Draconian legislation to come our way.

I find more then that under my bed when I finally get around to seeing what has migrated under there since the last time I got around to it.
Really, its amazing when you are a bit of a slob and you finally look under your bed :neener:

If that is huge..........
I hope they never pull anyone over that's on their way to a 3 gun match.:what:
Know what? It's not even really funny, it's sad. As posted by Norton, we'll be hearing more and more of this stuff in the near future.

So wait....some idiot left his guns in plain view in his car in a parking lot at an apartment complex?
Thats somewhat irresponsible if you ask me. Infact, isn't it illegal to do that?
Ya the news is making a big stink over it for the wrong reasons, but the guy got arrested for the right reasons.

In the truck as I type:
-K-31 w/ loaded mag
-Ammo can with 7.5 brass, ballistic tip bullets, IMR 4895 powder, CCI primers, dies, and a Lee hand press. (above two items are to work on deer season preps)
-500 rounds of 9mm reloads.
-1000 pcs of .45 brass to mail off.
-2400 pcs of 5.56 brass to mail off.
-2 17rd and one 33rd Glock magazines, loaded.
-Really big Khukri inside well packed, ready to live outdoors, Camelbak modular.
Add in the Glock 17 on me and you have all the makings of a journalistic orgasm.

OR other type of shooting activity. When we're going out for a day of casual shooting, there is usually no less than 12 firearms and ~2,000 rounds in the car.

The only one funnier than this was the recent news story from Britain where they found *gasp* a single .22 short round in a shop doorway *shock, horror, faint*
Sheesh - get a grip, news-sheeple :D

A real honest to god made in Russia AK-47, or some AK pattern rifle... light weights, Last time we had a "Social Outting" there were ~ 2-3 firearms per person and ~ 15 people there... + ammo, not much fun without ammo now is it. :neener:

Can anyone name the crime committed? How do you stop a parked car? If you had your stuff in the trunk can the impound people look inside?

MD, MachIV:
That's where I'm coming from. Just a little family outing with my brothers and their spouses results in 20-30 guns, with the ammo needed for the day. Figure around 250-500 rounds per gun, depending on what we plan on doing that day.
Heck, I guess where I live sure is a lot different than some parts of the country.
When I read *news* items like this, I don't know wether to laugh or cry.

Ben, It's not so different here; i'm a very casual shooter for the most part (don't reload, only own 4 guns) and even when my brother and I go shooting we have more than 6 guns in the car at once. Throw in my good marine friend and all his rifles and we'd have a veritable arsenal in the car, plus 5000+ rounds. I've always wondered what would happen if i got pulled over and the officer asked if i had any firearms in the car.
"Sir, do you have any firearms or other weapons in the vehicle?"
"Well yes, in the trunk we have 6 handguns, 2 scoped bolt action SNIPAR rifles, 3 semi automatic ASSAULT RIFLES, 2 shotguns and a big ass knife. And i'm carrying a .38. And my friend's carrying his .40."

I've always wondered what would happen if i got pulled over and the officer asked if i had any firearms in the car. This has happened to me. I was on my way to the range. Had an AR15 HBAR in the hatch back part, and I thought I covered it completely with a blanket, but I guess rough roads and such caused the blanket to move off a little, so you could see it. I had no trunk, the hatchback area was the best I could do. Anyway, a cop at a road construction area saw it as I was passing, and motioned that I should pull over. He asked me if I had any weapons in the car, and I said, "Yes, a rifle." He looks at it and asks me if it's an assault weapon. I inform him that it is not, and that it's an AR15 HBAR, which is semi auto only. He asked me why it was in the car, and I told him I was on my way to the range. This was back before the Clinton ban. Anyway, he says that I should wait here and he calls in to his supervisor. Ended up taking about a half hour total to get going again, and by that time my window for a reasonable length shooting session had passed. By the time I finished setting up, at this point, I would have had to start packing up again, so I just went home.

Didn't have room in the car.
Modern handguns: 1911, Tokarev TT33, Walther P1/P38, CZ-82, Makarov, Ruger Mk II, Ruger Single Six .22, Taurus 94B5 .22.
Blackpowder: Matchlock musket .54, Flintlock rifle .45 (couldn't shoot 'em, we wound up stuck on pistol range  ) Medieval hande-gonne .75 cal, flintlock pistol .54, Rogers & Spencer cap-n-ball .44. Didn't have any newbies to share with, so I just fired around 200 rounds myself.
"Arsenal". Feh. My shooting buddy had "a few" guns out. He had more 1911s there, than I had pistols.

Hawkye I thought courts ruled that traffic stops had to occur within a reasonable amount of time, as in no longer than necessary to complete the procedure. Since you committed no crime it should have been, "Ok sounds good, see ya."

When I read the 22 short article, I thought the shop owner found a thermal nuclear bomb that had a triggering device set to go when someone bumped it. A 22 short, WOW.

If I got pulled over while ferrying guns from the store to the gunshow, that would be an interesting conversation.
"Do you have any weapons in the truck, sir?"
"Yes, 47 rifles, 15 shotguns, and 80 pistols, not counting the two that are on me. Want to see the inventory sheet?"
I got pulled over once coming home from a 3gun match. I had been match director, and I had volunteered to bring some loaner guns for new shooters also. I was wore out after the match, so I didn't even bother to properly box everything back up, rather I just stuck them all in the back seat of my car.
All together I had six or seven AKs, ARs, and Saigas piled in the back seat. I was openly wearing my .45, and had a plate carrier full of magazines sitting on the seat next to me.
So the sheriff's deputy walks up to my window, shining his light in.
"So do you have any weapons in the vehic -- Holy ****!"
No problem. Got a warning to slow it down a little bit. (75 in a 65).
Man, I love Utah.

Rural VA, coming down out of the mountains at the WV border. There's a speedtrap town on Route 9, just inside VA. I wasn't paying enough attention to the 55-35-25 rapid speed drop, and a Sherriff Deputy lit me up. Pulled over, and he stopped like 50 yards back. Given the amount of time I had, and the lateness of the hour, I had my Makarov out, cleared, and locked open on the passenger seat, with license, registration, and CHL in hand, and both hands on the steering wheel when he showed up.
Deputy: License and registration, please. [read papers] Where's the weapon? [point to gun] Were you in a hurry, sir?
Me: Eh, more like driving with my head up my @$$, there...
Deputy: Well, I'm going to have to write you up for 53/35 (NOT 53/25, thank you Gods)...
[Returns from car]
Sign here... Now, can you slow down in my town, please? Thanks. [Look @ gun] What IS that thang? Can I see it?
5 minutes to get speeding ticket. 15 minutes of talking Juju of Commie Iron with Deputy. Gotta love Outer (not urban) VA.

I was once pulled over for improper display while I was driving home from my old job one friday. There was nothing special about it, except that had the officer for whatever reason searched my car, he would have found 2 AR-type rifles in the trunk that my boss had loaned to me, and told me "aquaint yourself with these." One was a National Match and the other was an M4gery with a Predator upper and an ACOG.
And that's to ignore that I also had my M91/30 in the trunk as well, and about 200 rounds of ammo for the ARs.
Good thing I didn't have any FAKE guns, or that could have been really bad!

I tried to imagine what I would say if I got pulled over on my way to the range and somehow the contents of my truck showed up on the news. My reflexive response is, "hey, these are all legal, I haven't broken any laws" -- and then it occured to me, they would eat that up.
I could see it now, "assualt weapons" "discovered" in a man's car as he drives through both commercial and residential areas on his way to a shooting range... Can you believe this is perfectly legal!?!? He could be driving past YOUR house! Catch the complete story at 6 o'clock...

good thing none of the weapons was a .22 handgun. The ammo might have fired itself, when exposed to the hot air the journalist was full of. That's the kind of gun that shot Brady, you know. and Reagan. and Bobby kennedy. And Abe Lincoln. and my dog jake. and approximately 10% of law enforcement officers killed in 2004 by firearms other than their own. Most dangerous gun ever invented.

Wow, some of the stories in this thread could almost make me cry. I can't imagine the uproar if I got pulled over in Australia, anywhere urban, with any firearms in the car not locked in a case or portable safe. I'd probably spend the next 10 years in the clink. :barf:

Oh my. I hope I never get pulled over. I can see it now. Grandmother arrested with huge arsenal in vehicle.

Local newspaper staff
Earlier today a local elderly woman was pulled over for a broken tail light. Unknown to the officer the woman was carrying 2 semi-automatic pistols, 3 revolvers, several military rifles to include an AK assault rifle with 12 30 round magazines fully loaded with ammo. There was at least 1,000 rounds of ammo in the vehicle. Local law enforcement officers had no idea what this elderly woman was doing with so much fire power. She is currently charged with smuggling firearms. The elderly woman said she was just on her way to the range. The arresting officer noted that no one carries that much to the range to shoot so she must have been involved in some nefarious activity.

During the 2004 hurrican season, when Central Florida got 3 hurricanes, I had to evacuate the house several times. I put all the guns in my truck. I had a .32, .38, .380 and a .45 in my truck tool box, and a 22, 7.62x39, 7.62x54 and a 12 gauge shot gun behind the seat of my Ford Ranger.
I was waiting to get pulled over and having a deputy ask me "Do you have any weapons in the car" to which I probably would have replied "Oh, HELL yes!"

Got pulled over years ago transporting weapons for the NG. Two SGT's had open carried .45's. Trooper asks why we're carrying. In the back of the F350 are M2HB's, M60's, M16's, M14's, and .45's. He just roled his eyes and told us to slow down. The best looks we got were when we had to cart all the weapons to our hotel room.
