I ask because I really don't see many people talking about this gun. Are they overpriced or what? I just purchased one yesterday and it came with 2 16 round mags!~ I love the feel of it and wouldn't mind owning a couple more in my lifetime. Any pro's and con's for the HK USP 40 that anyone has experience with? :D

I own 2 H&K USP .40 Full size and I love it.
I use one for my CCW and also one for IDPA Competitions.
it fits nicely and comfortably in my hands therefore able to
get accurate results. I believe they are quality firearms and very accurate. However I do agree with you as far as a little over prized.

I also own the .45 cal USP and the .9mm Usp.
I do not recall any type of misfires or jams from any of the 3 pistols

I bought mine the day they signed the Brady Bill years ago. Haven't had it falter yet. It was my first HK but led to a 7 others. I can say it's not my favorite of them all, but none-the-less it's not one I'd get rid of.
Over priced? To some, yes. To me, No. I feel it's a high quality excellantly engineered firearm that'll outlast me and surely is more accurate than I'm capable to shooting. To me, that's all worth the price. You get what you pay for after all.

I had a compact HK 40 I got in a trade. If it had been a full size I probably would have kept it. Traded it off for a rifle. Excellent gun, dead reliable, expensive magazines, but they do run and I like that they can be carried C&L. I also really like the mag release.

Dont have one yet, but shoot one frequently at the range and was really impressed with it. It seems lighter than my XD and Glocks, and is a real performer. Only thing I didnt like was it is hard for me to reach up and hit the slide release (as big as it is) without adjusting my grip... but I'm still going to buy one!

I have had one for years. Started off in IPSC with it. I have shot about 10000 rounds through it with zero failures (my friends will tell you that I really do not like to clean guns either). It is built like a tank. It is my home protection gun.

If you do get the 40, you MUST also get the 45 :D
The reliability of my USP45 is something that my Colt and Springfield 1911 CANNOT touch. (hell, it doesn't even come close)

I owned a USP40F and many other USPs over the years. Over time, I felt that the gun's performance did not justified the price. Switched over to glocks instead.

Pros:
Ambi mag release.
Cocked and lock if it floats your boat.
Huge trigger guard.
Tactical enough to impress your friends.

Cons:
Cost
Parts were hard to get (don't know now)
Cocked and lock (under stress you may decock the pistol).
Trigger sucks.
I would not suggest completely breaking down a USP.
Magazines are expensive.
Very few retailers stock them here.

hhhahahahahaha lots of you guys make some valid points, I read from so many people that this gun isn't worth the money, but from my life experiences, and i'm only 25, you get what you pay for, and if I can shell out a bit more and get the good stuff, I will~ Thanks for all the input !!

I really love them both...the 9 is my carry gun

I keep one in my nightstand for HD loaded with gold dot hollows. I love it and its more accurate (the round i mean, at least for me) then most people say it is.

I carry a 2000SK in .40 and shoot IPSC with a USP Expert.

I think you don't hear many people talking about them here because there's not much to say. They just work. Nobody is here asking about problems with them. Also whether you think it's good or bad aftermarket support for these is very limited, so you don't see much talk about customizing either.

Someone once told me not to be afraid to buy the best (and pay for it) because you won't be disappointed. He was right.

Love my USP.40...but where did you find 16rnd mags for it? Largest I can find are 13s.

www.calssportingarmory.com has the 16-round mags in stock. They're intended for use with the Jet Funnel but work with a normal USP too, they just stick out. The Jet Funnel is great, but once you install it you're stuck using the 16-rd $50+ mags only :(

Ah, don't own the USP-40, but my department issue is the USP-9 ... and, gotta say, over the past year, this puppy has been really growing on me (even though I'm a 1911 and SIG kinda guy). Ultra-reliable, easy-handling and acceptably accurate, a very good service pistol (cheese-grater frontstrap not withstanding). I'd assume the USP in .40 is as good, so I'm kinda-sorta warming up to the whole H&K deal ... Yeah, I'd pay the high tariff for one.

The HK pistols are definitely not overpriced. That would imply you are spending extra money and getting nothing in return. This is definitely not the case with HK. The are truly world class. Features above and beyond the normal pistol include: an unusually robust guide rod and recoil spring with a recoil reducing spring, Polygonal rifled barrels, hostile environment finish (you get the benefits of ss without the flash, and a full lifetime warranty that you will probably never have to use. As with any product, if it is overpriced it will not sell. Luxury items are not for everyone only for the few that know the difference between entry level and world class. I own an HK USP Tactical 45, it isn't the cheapest 45 I own, but I have never regretted its purchase.

I have one - that is, a USP .40S&W. I've had it for about 2 years, and it was my buddy's previous to me.

It's been great, except for one caveat: lately, it's been ejecting magazines on me. And no, I haven't been hitting the magazine release tab; it's simply ejecting them on recoil, IIRC on the second to last round or so - or generally near the end of the magazine. I got some new Wolff springs, but that only fixed it for a couple hundred rounds - so I'm assuming it's something else in the gun, likely a spring. Not sure what to do about it.

USP 40 was my absolute fav until I got an XD45. The only reason I prefer XD45 over USP45 is the grip size.

Then my wife decided that the USP 40 was *her* favorite, and I haven't shot it much since.:D

Never tried the .40S&W version but I do own a fullsize USP 45.It has been 100% reliable and extremely accurate.Zero malfunctions to date.Owned it for almost 2 years.

I think its a safe bet to say the USP40 will be an excellent shooter.Its one of the few pistols thats actually designed as a .40S&W.
