Springfield XD 45 followed me home!!

I went to my local dealer today to let him know how the M&P 9mm compact shoots and he asked me if I was interested in a two-tone XD45. I got it for $525 and I also picked up a brand new GTL10 (Glock tactical light) for $70. I was looking for one to put on my M&P compact anyways. I am sure I am not the only person in this forum who owns an XD45 so any input would be appreciated.:D

Congrats on the new xd :) One followed me home about 3 weeks ago as well.
I absolutely love mine, and have been carrying it ever since I bought it. I've put about 600 rounds through it already, and had no problems. Well except for some cheap reloads that I bought at the range once, but that was definitely the ammo (it wasn't crimped right, and the bullets were sliding back in the case, and this caused the gun to fail to feed those rounds).
I took it pin shooting a week ago, and had some of my best times yet with it.
It fits my hand perfectly, and is extremely easy to take down and clean too. I can't say enough good things about it. :)
Oh, and those M & P's are nice guns as well, my wife has one in 9mm. Shoots great, and really like the adjustable backstrap, as it means that both she and I can shoot it comfortably.

I am glad you like yours and are happy with it. I have the fullsize M&P 9mm and the compact version, but I can't decide which one I like more! They both shoot awesome! How is the recoil in the XD45? Do you shoot 185, 200, or 230 gr. ammo? Just curious.

So far I've put nothing but winchester white box 230 grain through it. Oh, and that crummy box of reloads, but they were 230 grain as well I believe.
The recoil isn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. It seems a little snappier than the full size 1911's that I've shot, but not much. That's to be expected with it being so much lighter I guess.
I'm still playing around trying to find a good holster that fits me for daily carry with it though. Right now, I'm using the one that came with it, and just wearing a winter coat when I go out. I recently purchased a Comptac CTac holster for it, but I've got to get some larger pants before I can wear the IWB comfortably I think. ( I know it isn't comfortable with my current jeans lol, tried that for a day, and wanted to throw the thing by the end of the day )

Congrats, hopefully you will love it like so many others do.
I'm waiting for the S&W M&P .45ACP.

I've heard that the stardard gun will have a 10+1 capacity, so a compact gun with a 6/7+1 capacity would suit me fine. It would probably take the place of my Glock 30.
The only bad thing that i've heard is that the first .45 M&P's will have a safety. I don't want a safety so i'll probably wait until that one is available.

A safety? Interesting. Not sure about that, but who knows. Still wondering why my fullsize has a magazine disconnect feature, but my compact does not?

Congratulations. I acquired one myself a couple of months back and love it. I too have only put cheap WWB ammo through mine so far. Wonderful shooter, ain't it? :)
I really need to find time to test it out with some good HP ammo.

Springfield XD 45 followed me home!! They have a habit of doing that. I've had a few probs with mine, but rest assured, NONE of them was with the firearm itself. I bought it "gently" used, and I am quite happy with it, especially with the "used" price I paid for it.:D

Mine didn't follow me home.
I was leaving work to go to lunch when I spotted my wife in her car next to mine. She had a grin on her face she couldn't conceal. She had just bought me a NIB 4" XD-45 as a gift and wanted to surprise me. Boy did she ever!

I haven't decided on the 4 or 5 inch barrel. What are your guy's recomendations? I won't be carrying. Just punching holes in paper.
Thanks.

The gunshop where I bought it from only has the 4" model in stock. The owner said he has a friend that loves his 5" model. I prefer a 4" over a 5" sem-auto, but that's just me.

The magazine disconnect is an option on the M&Ps. A few weeks ago someone listed all the product codes for M&Ps, cerain numbers mean w/ or w/o mag safety, w/ 2 standard mags, w/ 2 restricted (10 round) mags, w/ 3 standard mags, etc. Not sure who posted it, but good info.

Not to nitpick, but actually all of the original M&P's had the magazine disconnect. Now for some reason S&W has come to their senses and offered the gun without the safety and disconnect. Not having it or the safety lock is actually the option.:D

Treebeard,
Why do you prefer the 4" barrel?

I think it is because I am so used to the weight of a 4" handgun and how the gun balances out. 5" seems a little too long to me. However, when I shoot my 6" revolver the added length makes it easier to hit a target farther away. Maybe that is the case with a 5" semi-auto as opposed to a 4"?

I got to the range today and let me say BAM!!!! this gun rocks. I shot some 230gr. ball and some 200 JSWC and no hicups. I cannot believe my accuracy with it. I can't wait to get the compact XD45!:what: :what:

Yeah, what really surprised me was when I shot the 230gr. stuff. I did not experience the same kind of sharp nasty recoil like I did with the G36. I know the G36 is smaller, so that is probably the reason why. This afternoon I pulled out my Lee .45ACP dies, my 2,000+ empty casings, and my Titegroup. Looks like when I get back from South Carolina I got some reloading to do.:D :D Now I just need to order me a really nice IWB holster for it.
