TX: On CBS News: "A Monk And a Large Woman Come To An Officer's Rescue."

Okay, when you hear a teaser tag line like that, you HAVE to get your digital camera ready!
Turns out a cop got into a little trouble in an arrest, and a large Texan who also happens to be a monk (?!!?) sees that the B.G. has her gun, and steps in to disarm the B.G., covering him while the officer wrestles with him. When B.G. still puts up a struggle on the ground, a LARGE woman comes in to assist, and uses her assets to good advantage, and sits on the B.G. until he can be 'cuffed.
I'll just let the pics speak for themselves:
[NOTE: I do NOT want this thread to turn into a cop-bashing thread, a woman-bashing thread, a woman-cop-bashing thread, a large-woman-bashing thread, or even a monk-bashing thread, OKAY???!?

how many other places would the citizens taken the side of the critter? Good to see there are still some who don't mind helping.

Monk (if LH) seems to have a good sense of where the trigger finger should go when pointing at both a GG & BG.
Hopefully there will be a clearer version making the rounds soon.

(woops, even as I was typing this there was the clip on the 11:00 news (CBS) here. He was holding it in his RH. Still a great story.)

As I was glancing at the title of this thread, I was expecting a joke: A Monk and a large woman walk into a bar.....................
Good deal, I am glad they helped out and I am glad that it was presented in a positive light. CCW saves the day.

Cool 12-strang gittar.
You know...if I were the monk and holding a gun covering the BG and other cops show up onscene.... :uhoh:

444: "CCW saves the day."
Actually, not in this case. That's the cop's gun which the BG disarmed her of, and which the Large Helpful Monk (LHM TM) then did relieve the BG of. Monk said later that he felt if he'd waited 5 seconds longer, the BG would have shot her or him if he'd rushed in.

Just saw this on the Today show. A female (no... it's not just because it's a female I'm posting this) was serving a warrant on a thug. Thug takes LEO's gun away. A monk (not wearing a brown robe) comes in a takes gun away from thug. All caught on the dashmounted cruiser camera.
Anyone know the link to the footage or where this took place???
Go monk! Way to step in a help out an LEO!

I think I saw the same clip you are talking about. A rather "large" woman also comes over and flops down ontop of the BG while the other guy (monk?) is holding the officers weapon while the officer cufss the guy.

No, the gent was a Monk in a religious order in Texas. Soft-spoken guy. It was hilarious when the lady onlooker used her "tactical advantage" on the thug and pinned him. BTW, the monk certainly appeared to know his way around the pistol! Maybe his "order" is "High-order."

That monk disarmed that BG as good as anyone. He looked like he knew what he was doing. However, that small cop should have called for backup. She was asking for trouble in this case. That guy was way too big for her to handle........chris3

The big lady, now that is what I call COVER!
You know, cops are people too and they have a tough job to do where a lot of people really don't like them. Just because they are cops does not make them super human and does not make them perfect. They get excited, hyped up, scared, etc. just like other real people. The fact that they volunteer to go into the profession where they may not be liked by many people they deal with and risk their lives in the course of their duties really says a lot.
In this case, it was really goood that there were citizens who helped out. We expect cops to come to our rescue and get upset when they don't do it fast enough on in a manner we approve, but few people ever try to go to a cop's rescue.
I will gladly by that lady 2 dozen hot Shipley donuts and gladly extend the offer to the monk as well. I know, people have heard of Krispy Kreme but in reality, Shipley donuts rock the world!

Oh, ok! No wonder I was confused--here I was expecting a gorilla or an orangutan or some other large creature. . . . oh, wait. . . Nevermind!

Actually, not a Buddhist monk; he was wearing a large silver cross around his neck while they were interviewing him. Thus, just a leeeeeeetle less mysticism.
I think.

I had to provide backup for a police officer last Saturday, but it was not to disarm someone or sit on them. I bet this would win some cash on American's Funniest Home Videos or similar.

Monk or guardian angel?
Either way, way to go!
The assisting woman, too.
Great job all around.

Classic! Great video.
Looked like the lady cop held on to the gun just long enough for the monk to grab it away from the perp.
Supplementary Restraint, Civilian:Female certainly made her presence known. Almost feel sorry for the little guy who got smashed. Almost.
