I'm planning on ordering a XD5 tomorrow and I haven't decided on the barrel length. 4" or 5" is what I am considering. Are the 5" that much more accurate than the 4"? Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

If you're referring to the XD-45, then no - the difference in purely mechanical accuracy between a 5" barrel and a 4" barrel really isn't significant - not at common pistol range, anyway.

What is significant though is that the sights are 1" farther apart when mounted on a 5" barrel, which means you may be more accurate, even if the gun itself really isn't.

Make sense?

It's also worth noting, should you be thinking of carrying this XD45, that Springfield has announced a sub-compact version. While the barrel otions are still 4" & 5", the grip has been shortened, and it comes with a short (10 rnd) and eXtension (13 rnd) magazine.

It's on my Christmas list. :D

what is the main purpose of the gun? and if you are reffering to an xd in 45acp, then i think you you will be very happy with it, and just to let you know i think you made a great choice! fine weapons, i have an xd and will have another by next payday!

Thanks all. Yep, I forgot the 4 in XD45. Public education strikes again:banghead: . I have several 5" guns and I was just interested in the difference between the two. I think I'll go with the 4". That way I can carry when I move to Alaska:D . I'm not worried about getting a compact. I'm a big dude and could probably conceal a howitzer in a shoulder holster.

So you're going to move to Alaska eh? Its a great state to live in, if you don't mind the sub-zero temperatures 6 months out of the year, depending on which part of AK u choose to reside in. I myself live in Anchorage, the biggest city in Alaska.
