RCBS charge master combo woes

Hello all

I am having problems with my brand new charge master powder thrower. It seems that it doesn’t like Win 748. After pressing dispense it will only thro about .8 gns and then stop. If I tap the pan it will continue, If I press dispense it will continue also but will also throw .2gns too much.

I have used a different powder witch has a far bigger granule which works perfectly. But my set-up works best with 748.

My theory is that the initial throw has inadequate weight over the scale. (As to say there is no pan to collect powder Then stops)

My theory to fix is to use a smaller pan (to centralise the weight)

Anybody else had this problem? Anyone got any suggestions to help me?

I have already swapped it for another one

Thanks

Mine works great with ball powders (748, Lil' Gun, H110) as well as stick powders.
The pan doesn't make any difference on mine. The steel pan that came with the Combo, a RCBS aluminum pan or a Lyman with the integrated funnel all work the same.

Is 748 a stick powder? I've never used a stick powder in mine, but I've had really good luck with:

Trail Boss
H335
H110
Titegroup
Bullseye

I tend towards ball powders since I eventually convert most of my calibers to run under the dillon and use the chargemaster to work up my preferred loads. It is funny to watch it trickle in the trail boss though . .it moves the dispenser tube maybe 1/8 of a turn, waits, 1/8, waits . .and ends up dropping about one of those little donuts each time.

Have a good one,
Dave

I have never had a problem...
I use
H110
IMR4350
IMR4831
IMR 4198
IMR 4064
Bluedot
or
Clays Universial

I would call RCBS....

Any follow up to this? I'm thinking about buying one, but may just stick with my balance beam and spend the cash on components instead.

It's proably because the new rcbs charge masters are made in china and not by pact anymore.

I just got a chargemaster 1500 dispenser/scale combo a few weeks ago, and I have to say I love it. no trouble so far.

I can't see how diff powders would cause any problems, since it just spins a trickle tube to dump powder in the pan. Don't see what difference powders would make.

Once mine was just dropping a few specs of powder and then stopping, but it was something I messed up by pushing a button by mistake. Had to turn it off, then reset the correct weight, then it threw the correct amount.
