S&W safety lock

Do all current S&W's come with the lock? Can you special order one that doesn't have the lock or the ugly key hole on the frame?
I'm interested in a 686 but leaning towards a GP100 because of the lock issue.
Thanks.

They are on all current S&Ws.

An interesting fact is that while a very vocal minority claims nobody really cares about the lock, or even wants it, more and more promotional pictures of S&W revolvers are being taken of the RIGHT hand side... the side without the lock. I think there's a message there.

You've seen companies like Remington REMOVE the lock from all of their rifles/shotguns in the past couple of years.
Even S&W has started to see the light and offer their M&P series with the option of not having the lock or the magazine disconnect.
Maybe they are starting to get a clue, I wouldn't doubt we see a special run of revolvers with the lock hole plugged or completely removed.

Their semi-autos never had the lock and not to mention the fact they are trying to sell the M&P to the LEO market.

Wrong. The M&P is available with or without the lock.

I got the SP101 and the lack of a lock was one of the reasons.

Try to find one with the lock. They are a wee bit hard to come by.

Maybe I should have worded it until the M&P came out the S&W semi-autos never had the lock.
Is that better? :D
