I inherited my Dad's Model 12 serial number 632908. Still shoots great hence my pheasant limit last weekend. I'd like to know the approx age? Also can I shoot anything else but lead?

Bismuth works well in guns which may have issues with steel or other very hard shot.

Bismuth should be OK for these fine old guns when needed, waterfowl. Stay with lead when you can, upland game. For heavens sake don't use steel shot, never.

do a search for winchester model 12 serial number, you will find what you are looking for. My number is 952XXX and is 1942. So yours is quite a bit older.

I've got my dad's, close to your serial #, 1931. It's a nice old gun, but would use only bismuth and lead in it. They are sturdy old guns and could probably handle steel, but why strain it?

armscollectors.com Looked it up. Your gun was made in 1931 and no, don't shoot steel through it. Other lead type stuff is OK.
