I PROMISE pictures as it is a easy hunt with lots of drinking afterward at the remote hunting lodge(I'm the only turkey hunter here and will help the rancher with morning tour of his 9000acre spread until we happen to end up at the 'turkey meadow)! I will be using a Browning 10ga.BPS 30" with full lead only choke and Remington 3.5" #4 lead shot. I KNOW where this patterns to 60 yards and I KNOW where the flocks hang out - In a dense Oak growth wadi, and there is NO hunting pressure on them!:D :D :D

I was reading your thread and wondered if you (or anyone else) could answer a quick question. Is 45 yards too far for a 3.5 inch 12 guage turkey load? I missed and wondered if the distance was too great (assuming an accurate shot). I was shooting a turkey choked 28" gun.

Also the gun hits slightly left of point of aim. Can it be adjusted or do I simply need to compensate by aiming slightly right? I am really bummed that I missed. I wanted one in the fryer for Thanksgiving. It was the only shot I had the whole trip. I have never been into shotguns, so I don't know much about them. Maybe I should have stuck with a scoped rifle - maybe in 17HMR.

Thanks for any suggestions. I hope you fare better than I did.

Oh yes - last question. This is a small 20 acre private parcel in TX that has a lot of deer and turkey activity. The deer always come back after we shoot their buddies. Will the turkey likely return as well? Or do they tend to stay clear of an area they were shot at for long term? Its my only hunting area and I want to try againin December...

I'm ready to go . You were well within range but
"
Also the gun hits slightly left of point of aim."

is almost certainly the problem. A pro shotgun barrel man can correct this.
Turkeys work areas, will likely return for the food!

Got two(used the rancher's quota too) , one well over 20 pounds. Just got home, gave the bottle of Scorpio vodka(in thanks) to the rancher so only had a couple a beers all day (thank G-d!). He dragged me over about 50 miles of his roads, I brought 5 shells, and NO camera. I missed the first gobbler twice in the first flock , later measured I was shooting 80 yards!!
Changed our tactics and stalked the next flock of six, which turned out to be all big bearded toms. I got with in 30 yards and head shot the longest beard,:D and got the second just as he was rising about 45 yards(he ran 15 yards), still blotted the head :D ran up and stabbed them in the brain as they were thrashing:cool: Went home with one shell!
I am gonna go out in the dark now and tie them to a step ladder and gut them(I'll leave whats left of heads and beard). Tommorrow morning before I scald and pluck I PROMISE pictures, the weather is beautiful!;)

Had to go with a store bought. It was sure good though. 50 minutes in the fryer all injected with cajun marinade... Next time it'll be a wild one though. Thanks for the update. Looks tasty!
