I pick up a bunch of 147gr fp lead bullets as a possible hold over while the 45 is getting new sights fitted. I plan on using these on metal plates and pins at appr. 15 meters. My main powder right now is bullseye and the 2 sources I use one says 3.5 gr's is max and the other says 4.2gr's is max. I really do not want to wear my BHP out using really hot loads but I would like something that will put these pins and plates down. Any input on what would be a good load in 9mm for this type shooting would be appreciated.

I used Bullseye and my loads ranged from 2.5 to 3.8 grains. 3.8 gave me performance equal to factory Winchester 147 grain ammo.Power factor ran from 101 to 131. I was using Berrys plated bullets.

I'd start at 3.0 and work up from there. 1.140 OAL.

My figures are with a 3" barrel.

Thanks for the info Darwin. I have shot some that I loaded to 3.5 and 3.7. The 3.5 had a very mild recoil. The OAL on the ones I have loaded are 1.155. I normally load for .45 and 9mm is a new experience for me. I thought using the heavier bullet I would be able to come up with a load that would let me compete with the .45's. Those pins just snicker when I use 115gr fmj.

My load notes show I have shot 5.4 gr Bullseye and 147 gr 1.169" OAL in a Kel-Tek P11 with chamber support .190" from the breech.

Nothing special happened, no case bulge or primer piercing.

Quickload shows that 5.4 gr as 119% fill ratio, so that was probably all I could fit in there.
