Costco is anti-gun?

My local Costco recently posted a sign to the effect of "Firearms are prohibited on these premises".
I live in the Phoenix area and have a CCW.
Has anyone else seen this in their locale?

No but Ill look at mine and let ya know here in the Northwest. Check your laws. I believe all they can do is ask you to leave if they actually found out
At least thats the way it is here with other type stores. To bad I like Costco

Nothing to worry about if you are concealing properly...

Costco has yet to venture into KY. I went there alot when I lived in the PRK and don't remember any signs but then again, hardly anyone was lucky enough to get a CCW permit anyway.
In KY, they can ask you to leave if they find out you have a gun and a no-gun sign is posted. They can have you arrested for trespassing if you return with the gun once they told you to beat it the first time. That's why you carry concealed. Who's to know if you are carrying.

This rings some familiar bells. Private businesses do have the right to deny entrance to anyone they wish. We also have the right to patronize establishments based on our own decisions. Let them know what you think about their policy (politely of course :D ) and go your way. At least they have the guts to post a sign letting the public know.

Been brought up a couple of times here and over at TFL.
I've yet to see "No Guns" signs at the 2 Costcos I shop at in Northern Virginia (Fairfax and Sterling).

I would agree with this except the chance that you get caught and brought up on charges. THen depending on your state you might lose you gun rights forever. It is a tough choice sometimes.

But do you really want to give them your money?

The 2 Costco stores in the Cincinnati area do not have such signs at the door. They probably assume that it is unnecessary since CCW is banned in Ohio.:fire: I have seen Standard Ohio Dept. of Liquor signs in the wine dept. (felony to possess firearm anywhere Booze is sold). This applies to open carry as well. These are not Costco signs and are required by the state as part of their liquor license.

I don't do business with anti-Second Amendment bigots. If they don't respect me, they sure as @#$%^&! aren't going to get any of my money.

Henry,
Does this just apply to the wine/beer dept area of the store or is the whole building included? What about a place like Jungle Jim's (assuming that you've been there and know what I'm talking about) that has a seperate liquor area with their own cash register within the store itself?
Actually I legally carried in the Tri County Costco once during that lovely 10 day period last year (just had to make sure that I didn't go much further north of there into Butler County ;) ), for now though that option doesn't exist anymore.

geez, with all the signs/ads in the front doors of costco, who has time to read each and every one of them? just went there with the boss to pick up 30 boxes of paper (stupid cheapskate thinks its more economical to buy there instead of paying to have the paper delivered - wont be economical when someones back gets injured from lugging thirty 50lb boxes of paper off the shelves into the palllet and then off the pallet into the truck and then off the truck into the elevator then off the elevator into the office.)

Greg L,
Frankly, I don't know the answer to your question. A little legal research is in order as soon as I can spare a few more minutes. Logically, the Jungle Jim's "liquor store" situation would be a bit different. Also it is possibe that Costco is not supposed to or required to post those signs, since they don't "serve" alcohol and don't sell the hard stuff.
BTW, here in Hamilton County, OH, just because LEO's are no longer prohibited from charging CCW, does not been that they must or will do so. Nor does it mean that the law is constitutional (lowercase "c" besause it's the Ohio const.).

The Costcos around here (Texas) that I've seen don't have signs. Of course, this is Texas, and I don't think that Costco wants to alienate 226,000 CHL holders (as of 5/1/03) and their families. Besides, the requirements for the 30.06 sign are so exacting that I've only seen one or two done correctly anywhere.
