Hi guys,

I have some N110 powder which I intend to use to load .44 magnum, but currently I have only 215gr plated bullets. I can't find load data for that anywhere, and I'd like to use them :(

Closest ones are:

200gr XTP 23,7gr N110 (starting load) 26,2gr (max)
240gr jacketed 19,8gr N110 (starting load) 21,9 (max)

Can I safely substitute the 240gr bullet with the 215gr plated, and use max 240gr load as a load for it?

For example 22 grains?

Help! :o

GA: you'd be better off to look at the start charge for the Sierra 220 gr. FPJ or contact the manufacturer of the 215 gr. plated bullet and get their recommendation. In any case, use the start charge when changing bullets. Load data varies between jacketed and plated bullets of the same weight just as it does with cast bullets vs. jacketed. Using the data of the heavier jacketed bullet and a START charge is a safe approach so long as you use a powder that doesn't have an extremely narrow window between start and max charges (like H-110 and W-296), but nothing can be assumed concerning a potential max charge. V-V doesn't list an N-110 charge for the Sierra 220 gr. FPJ for some reason. Possibly because they're calling it a match bullet. I use silhouette bullets for hunting loads in place of hard cast sometimes, because when driven to highest velocity, they will expand slightly and still give you excellent penetration. I don't own a Sierra manual, or I'd list the charge.;)

Thanks.

I decided to go with 21,2 grains of Vihtavuori N110. It should be on the safe side.

After these bullets have been shot, I will buy something else - something which is listed in the manuals ;)

(I had problems with seating these bullets anyway. See my other thread)
