Importing shotguns

Guys, I have a friend who is trying to import a shotgun from Denmark that was a gift from his father in law. He wants to bring the shotgun back to the US, and from what he read, he must go through an importer in Denmark and in the US to get this done legally. He says he has partially filled out the ATF form 6, but it needs importer info.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

I don't know if this makes a difference, but he got the gift while he was on active duty in the Air Force, but left it in Denmark with his in-laws when he got back stateside.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Call Customs at the port of entry where it would arrive. (Expect to be transferred and referred many times.) Soneone there will know and would be the ones who would give you trouble rather than F-Troop. Start at http://www.cbp.gov

I don't know about the Denmark side, but on this side, he needs to line up an FFL in his state of residence (Importer not required) and complete the ATF FORM 6 - Part I (5330.3A). That is then sent to ATF for approval. The FFL then presents the approved ATF FORM 6 - Part 1 and a completed ATF FORM 6A to the US Customs Service.

HERE (http://www.atf.treas.gov/forms/pdfs/f53303a.pdf) is the instruction sheet for doing the Form 6 Part 1 (PDF Format).

Thanks to both of you for your advice. I'll pass all this on to him. Much appreciate the advice. :)
