OD Green

I'm in the market for a Glock 19 (as soon as I scrape together the funds). I've looked at both the standard black and the OD green versions of the frame and I'm leaning towards the green. It's not that I necessarily LIKE it, it just lends some character to the weapon. I know it's a tool, first and foremost, but that doesn't mean it has to be boring.

I'm concerned about what the downsides to the lighter color might be, though. Will it be harder to keep clean (rather, will I have to keep it cleaner since the dirt and grime will be easier to see)? Will wear show through more substantially? Will it have any effect on concealability? I imagine it would print through lighter colors less. . .

I don't have any intention of ever selling the gun. It will be my first glock, but I've put more than 500 rounds through the one at the range and I'm pretty convinced it suits me (plus, the wife REALLY wants it). That being said, will any of the above issues, or the plain fact that it's green, have any impact on resale value?

Thanks for any input you might have.

I can't answer any of those questions, really. All I can say is that I think the OD Green shade used is kinda hideous, and that I imagine it would draw much more attention than simple black would if the weapon were to become partially exposed.

Something I think that would be attractive would be a black lower, and then use something like Duracoat on the slide/upper in OD Green. But green plastic just seems cheap to me.

I somewhat agree on the "cheapness" of it. It almost makes the gun look like a toy, I think. As I said, I don't necessarily LIKE it, I just like that it's different.

In the last few minutes I've come across some pictures of a dark tan frame, apparently straight from the Mfr. It strikes me as a bit of a compromise, perhaps, but all of the questions above still apply.

If your asking for opinions, I have a OD Green Sigma, a OD Green Armalite AR15, and OD Green furniture on my AK plate gun. I have my eye on an OD Green Glock 20 in 10mm. (Which IMO is the best looking Glock ever made) When I was in the army, we wore OD Green uniforms. I like OD Green myself. But as always, to each his own.

I think they are rather ugly, just like me.

but other than the color, just exactly the same as the black ones.

plateshooter: how well do they wear? Scuffs, scratches, etc.? And are you able to keep them that purdy OD without any extra effort?

Here is a pic of my G19. The mid size frame is the best of the bunch from Glock and they really know what they were doing w/ the 9mm ;) IMO, it's the best gun they make!

LG, no difference in wear or scratches from my black guns. No difference in maintaining to me.

BTW nice G19 10-Ring

Plateshooter - Thanks ;) I think Gaston himself was truely inspried when the G19 was born :D Now as for the two tone...I think it's so ugly it's come back to being cool

Remember when some of us (well, the generation before ME at least) bought those avocado fridges and stoves in the late 70s/early 80s. Remember how they looked 10-20 years later. That's how your Glock is going to look :neener:

I imagine the future generation of gun owners will say, "what were our parents thinking... OD green?!"

I say keep guns in standard colors, black, brown, stainless. Can't go wrong with the classics.

Brown? really? :scrutiny: Classic??? :scrutiny:

No, we didn't have the avocado appliances...my mom & dad went with the harvest gold! :banghead: I can just imagine harvest gold poly frames :what:

I honestly rather have a tan or OD frame for a pistol. I had an OD G19, no problem cleaning it, but it will show the soot on the end of the frame of course until you wipe it down.

I live just outside Ft Hood TX and have for 30 years. OD Green, Desert Tan, and Camo don't trip my trigger in any shape form or fashion. I just don't want to look military in a sea of military.
