Need help with handgun sights

I just picked up a Ruger Redhawk and some previous owner replaced the Ruger sights with a couple of fiber optic (Tru-Glo or some other such make) sights. Two green dots in the rear and one red dot in front. Problem is the gun shoots high (apparently the other owner just scoped the thing and left the sights where they were) and the rear sight is all the way down. There's no more room left to drop it any further. Front sight is fixed and no amount of coaching will get it to grow. Has anyone had this experience before? Can I file a smidgen more off the bottom of the rear sight to try and drop it more? It shoots about 4 - 5 inches high at 25 yards. Maybe the front sight needs to be different? Try a shorter type and the rear readjusted again? Does anyone make a different front sight that would fit the Redhawk? Any ideas other than going back to the original Ruger sights (which I don't have). Thanks guys....

I know this is an old post, but I found it while looking for related info...

The sights you have sound like Williams Firesights to me. Also, if they're like the ones for the GP100, which I have, the rear sight sits on top of the factory assembly, which makes it sit higher. That is why it shoots too high. I had the exact same problem with my GP100 and 180gr loads. Theoreticaly you could file the rear down, but if you use the "dots" to line up your sights, that won't work. I actually called Williams about this regarding my GP100 and they blew it off as a non-issue.

It's a real shame because the Williams Firesights are fantastic outdoors, but not if you can't hit your target.

You can call Ruger and get factory sights from them and for a lot less than aftermarket units.
