The red is for courage, and the white is for purity. I forgot what the blue is.
There are 13 stripes for the 13 colonies.
50 stars for the 50 state

Red, white, and blue. True blue, red for the blood spilled, and white for I can't remember.
13 red and white stripes, representing the original colonies.
50 white stars in a blue field that represent the current 50 states.

I'll play
Red for Courage, White for Purity, Blue for Justice.
13 Stripes for the original 13 Colonies.
Blue star field goes to the left, from the perspective of "most viewed".
Flag flown upside down is symbol of distress or oppression.
Flag flies above all others in a group.
Flag is never dipped in salute to another flag.
THESE COLORS NEVER RUN !
Did I miss any?

Stripes: because the original charters of the colonies divided the continent up into stripes. The Virginia colony was defined as "the New World, between X and Y latitudes, from the Atlantic ocean proceeding West until we run out of continent" (or words to that effect). So were the others.
13 original colonies == 13 horizontal stripes of real estate == 13 stripes on the flag.

If worn on the arm of a shirt or jacket as a patch the blue field faces front of individual, as is if flag was in the wind blowing towards wearer. I fly mine day and night, with spotlight on it at night. What's proper way to "retire" a flag from service?

To retire a flag you must cut the blue field from the flag. At which point it is no longer a flag and can be burnt.

White... Signifies purity and innocence
Red.... Signifies valor and bravery
Blue..... Signifies Vigilance, perseverance, and justice
Why stars and stripes?......... Stars are considered a symbol of the heavens and the divine goal to which man has aspired from time immemorial...... the stripe is symbolic of the rays of light emanating from the sun.

George Washingtons personal coat of arms was a blue field on top, with a white star, centered in it, and 3 red and white stripes, vertical, beneath. B. Ross was a personal friend of G. Washington, and re arranged his arms into a flag. Originally 13 stars and 13 stripes. Later more of each, but reverting back to the 13 stripes when the count hit 17 or so. Woulda looked too much like a French sailors shirt, I guess.

The white background is for the flag of surrender.
The star is for the socialists in the populated liberal metropolitans.
The bear is to pay homage to the ex-country, the Soviet Union, that the state is trying to emulate.
:scrutiny:
Oh, you mean, US Flag, instead of the People's Republic of Kalifornia flag. :D

The flag can be dipped in salute to the flag of another country. U.S. warships may dip the flag in salute to a warship of a friendly power, but only if the other ship dips their national flag first.

When raising to half-staff, always raise flag to full-staff first, then lower to half...
When lowering from half-staff, always raise to full-staff first, then lower flag..

No need to cut the flag up before burning.
The flag should be 'burned in a dignified manner' I believe is how the flag code puts it (I did not peek).
Round here, we put it in a box so nobody sees it and incinerate it....always with a ''thank you".

I remember from my Boy Scout days that we would flag-fold it into the little triangle with only the blue star field showing, salute it, then place it on the fire.
I did recently read about the custom of removing the blue star field intact to render it a "non-flag" prior to burning. You don't cut THROUGH the star field, because that represents a division of the states, contrary to the concept of United States.
