Proper bead alignment

Hey everyone,

Quick question on the aligning of a shotgun's beads...

So if you were say patterning and aiming for a bullseye... other than making sure your head is "flat" with the gun - i.e. no rib visible and bead is not obscured by the rib (the bead is the only fully visible item), what is the "proper" technique for aligning the gun?

Do you put the bead on top of the bullseye, or below it? I ask from this angle simply because when wingshooting I just ignore them, and point the gun. But is there a "right" way?

Thanks!
Tristan

Totally depends on how it fits you and how it is set up to shoot.

My trap guns are about 80/20 (% above and below POA). Field guns are about 60/40.

Personal preference and the patterning board are the answer.

As a general rule Trap shooters have one of the highest points of impact verses point of aim. (Aim low, guns shoots high; see lotsa rib before the front bead; high comb.)

Field guns are flat; cover the bird and pull the trigger.

I am not aware of a gun that is set up to shoot under the point of aim.
